hello all
while cleaning my bike recently i noticed that the seal on the top of the right fork was saturated with fluid and upon further inspection noticed that this clear fluid was running down the fork and dripping off the bottom. now this wasn't a heavy drip, just where enough of the fluid had managed to make it to the bottom of the fork and drip off.
can anyone diagnose this rather easily?
is it a bad fork seal? the seal is probably the stocker and it is a 93 model.
any suggestions?

check your brake fluid level.
Is it leaking from the front brake master cylinder, down the brake line, to the fork leg? Or, is the leak starting from the seal? If it is starting from the seal, the fork seal is bad. Don't ride the bike, unless you're taking it to the dealer to get it fixed, and then zip-tie a sock, or rag, around the fork leg slider to keep the fluid off of your front brake disk.
the fluid is coming from the fork seal on the side opposite the disk brake, so i am assuming that the fluid is coming from the seal, which appears to have small cracks around the inner radius of it.
how much of a job is it to fix this and what does it consist of?
also, i did check my brake fluid level in my master cylinder, by eyeballing the window on it, and it seemed full.
one thing i did notice though is that there was a little bit of brake fluid seeping from around the place where the top of the reservoir is screwed on.
the top seemed to be on pretty tight so now im curious about why that would be leaking.
i didn't take the top of the reservoir off to look for myself, so could someone tell me if there is a seal there that could be bad.
could hard breaking cause enough internal pressure inside the master cylinder to cause the fluid to seep out at that place?
any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

If you have any mechanical ability you can do the seals yourself. I'd get a manual and use the SEARCH function to read about a tool you'd be smart to make (easy - $8 at Home Depot). I replaced my seals a few weekends ago and this is my first motorcycle - so I had no idea really what I was doing (other than my Clymers manual) and lots of reading past threads I found in a search. But bottom line, it is very doable, give 'er a shot, spend the money you saved by doing in yourself on :cheers: Good luck!
