People told me that 27 is a life changing year for a lot of people. Did you find that to be true Roadstergal? I've been 27 for 3 months now and it's been pretty uneventful so far.

I haven't worried about a birthday since 25.  I'll be 31 in Dec.

Happy Birthday, R-Gal.  You're still a baby!

I thought 27 was ok...  My life was all f%&ked up, but it didn't bother me as much as it should have.

I think 31 will be good...  It's 30 I don't want. I think I'll go from 29 to 31.

The people I know that turned 31 say it's much worse than 30.  The realization that, yes, you're in your 30s actually hits.

Happy birthday RG.  Funny you should mention crappy 27ths.  I've lost three close family members and am having the F&*!#%g worst time in grad school-candidacy exam and losing funding!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway... hows everyone doing?  Sorry, didn't mean to vent here..but I posted it anyway, what do you think that means?

Ja, my PI had some disagreements with the IACUC and moved to Texas - coincidentally, just as my Hughes fellowship was expiring.  I ended up here with a useless Master's, no job, and a quickie move because the house I was renting a room in was being sold.  I ended up in a seedy place where I got woken up at 3am by guys with guns wanting money.

Well, I'm now at least in a nice (if small) apartment, have a job, and am re-applying to a different program.  30 is looking up.

Is that a Howard Hughes fellowship, were (are) you going for a  biotech or biomedical PhD? You say you ended up with a crappy masters, just a guess.

Yep, a Hughes predoctoral fellowship.  I now have a Master's in Immunology, which is worth squat.  I'm applying to MCB...

Well Happy Birthday, whenever it is, and good luck getting a degree worth something.   I saw the numbers recently on what chemists make in the US, and with a bachelors I'll be looking at 60s, maybe not starting out, but still that seems like good money to me. :)

30 didn't bother me at all...but now I wanna know how long I get to keep saying, "I'm in my -early- 30's" before it just becomes "in my 30's" (gawd I hate the term "30-something").  Considering I'm nearing my *gasp* mid-30's...I'm gonna hold out as long as possible.

Happy birthday to  RG.

Your degree is in immunology. I thought you'd enjoy this article that just came out in Immunity.

http://download.immunity.com/pdfs/1074-7613/PIIS1074761305002694.pdf

It was done by two guys up the street from me.  Like all big discoveries it was a complete accident.  You don't get that from the article, but I read in the univeristy times here that they accidently poked the dendritic cells and that's what stimulated the nanotubules to grow.  Gotta love advances in science.

By the way I"m halfway to 34 and havent' yet taken my prelims to be admitted to full doctoral candidacy, and that's after almost 3 years of classes.

Jake

Uh, I will be 28 in 4 months, nothing much to say and nothing "life changing" except for work taking over these days.  Not looking forward to "30" though :o Still feel like early 20's

28 was the big year for me.  Bought my first house, wife delivered kiddo #2, Sept. 11th happened, I got deployed, wife got preggers with kiddo #3 (the 1st girl born into my family in 5 generations) when I came home on leave (and yes, I'm sure she's mine).  With some of the folks 'round here I have to make that disclaimer and anyone who calls into question my wife's virtue will meet their end in a manner too gruesome for mere words to properly illustrate.  ;)

After the last day of the MSF class, we grabbed lunch with one of the rider coaches...he thought it would be fun to play the 'age guessing' game.  Of the 6 people who were there, he hit 3 right on, was within a year for two others (both female, he guessed low...smart man).  For me?  He guessed 39.  Ouch.  Dammit, I'm in my early 30's.

I think that was more shocking than actually turning 30.  :(

s'ok.. people who only meet me through work guess me at mid 20's (I'm 19), people at the movie theater card me for R rated movies... the guy at the gas station last year when I bought my first legal cigar thought I had a fake ID... I mean, c'mon.. who would make a fake ID to say they're EIGHTEEN?!

Nice guy- I'm 25 and people still think I'm 16.  I get carded for everything.  I guess it will pay off when I'm 40.

Oh by the way Happy B-day RG!!!!
