Title: B*tch dropped my bike!!!
Post by: luisfigo_benfica on September 30, 2005, 07:07:39 PM
so im celaning my GS and this girl that i barely know asks if she can sit on it so im thinkin ok she looks like she can take it. she grabs the handlebars and lets it roll back (it was on the stand) the bike starts leaning to the right and picks her up and she lets go!!! :guns:  so the bike falls to the right right on the edge of the curb. I felt like beating the shiat outta her but shes a gurl. front windshield loose and cracked, paint scratched new exhaust scratched. :guns:  that Buddha Loves You

well i know how you feel.  Anytime friend of mine want to sit on my baby i hold the handlebars.  You have to think that the only thing with handlebars that they have picked up is probably a bicycle.  The GS isn't big but it is way more than a bicycle.  Just look at it this way, you could have had an F.

I am sorry your bike is messed up but here are a few things to consider.

1).  Did you show her the proper mounting technique?

2.)  Does she know to grab the clutch and front brake so that the bike doesn't roll?

3.)  Did you centerstand it if you can?  The sidestand on these puppies is not very reliable.

It is your bike and ultimately your responsibility for who gets on it and what they know.  A few seconds of instruction before letting anyone who you suspect may not have very much MC experience is always very benefical.  If they dont want the instruction or give you lip their ass shouldn't be on your bike anyway.

I had a similar exp...the day after I got mine I was teaching my brother the friction zone doing some ducky walking.  He decided to dump the clutch, the bike lurched, then in a panic he grabbed every lever he could (clutch and brake)...obviously the bike went down.  I just stood there and told him, "You're lucky the bike landed on you rather than hit the ground and get scratched up."  He said, "Please lift it off me..."  When I stopped being mad we had a good laugh.

this reminds me...

the other day I was coming out of some stupid class (dont even know which one) and then I got into my gs promptly.
As I was sitting there putting my gloves and stuff, this girl started walking close by me until finally she gather enough courage and said: "What if I want to ride with you... where is the spare helmet!?!..."

Of course I said nothing, smiled, gave her the finger and took off.  :nono:

ya right. helmets are so sheep that anyone can buy spares for any foo that wants to ride with you for free.

if someone who doesn't ride sits on my bike, i usually stand in front of the front wheel and use my hands to balance the bars in case they lose it.

Dude.... what are you talking about?  The side stand is WAY more stable than the centerstand.

I would have complimented him on his extreme drag-your-body-instead-of-just-your-knee leaning technique, then flicked boogers at him while he was under the bike and had him recite the bike safety code! :-)  Too mean?   Nah!

Hey, maybe it's better to find out up front.

As far as side vs. center - maybe aj meant it in terms of the center stand not being something that the sitter-on-er would accidentally take the bike off of.  I wouldn't park the bike on the center stand and leave it there, but if someone of not excessive weight wants to sit on your bike, the center stand makes sense.  I have to really make an effort to get the bike down when I'm sitting on it; a gal is not going to get it off of the center stand just sitting on it and fooling around, while you can easily get it off of the side stand and... oops...

Not always... I have found it depends a whole bunch on the rear tire height and the kind of shock...

Thanks- RG& Stephan,
That is exactly what I meant.  THe centerstand is way more stable for a use such as a girl just sitting on the bike.  Just like Rg I have to make a very consentrated effort to get my bike off the centerstand and that is knowing exactly how to do it.  This is not to mention the angle of the sidestand sucks.  Centerstand would not be a good idea if girl was like 300 pounds but then again I would be laughung my a$$ off at you for letting a hippo sit on your bike anyway.

Semi-related, just found out today that the girls I work with (been working at the place for 2 wks now...) hopped on my bike yesterday while I was inside working, and took picts with a cam. phone.  Bike wasn't hurt/scratched at all, but I was kinda mad that 2 of them got on it without me knowing.  I'm gonna get a date with one of them when I work next though, so that'll probably make me forget about it.

I saw the cam. phone pict of her and she wasn't there today, I said, who is that HOTTIE!???? cuz I didn't really recognize her at first, then I realized who it was, and all the girls started laughing when I got all red.

Ah well, now she knows I think she's hot, so whatever...

Narcissus, how do you dump your bike that many times?   I let my 13 year old ride around for an hour yesterday for the first time and no dumps.
The only time  (thank GOD)  I ever dumped was on my DR650 on the dirt track.

Not all of us are as "special" as you. Hell, I dropped my '04 the first day I got it, and then it fell over at the end of a slow speed u-turn. Tiny fixable tank dings were the only thing other than my pride that was hurt.

I'm on two so far (1200 miles).  First was a centerstand related lack-of-proper-balance tragedy with the bike not moving or running that left some small reminders on the right side.

The second was a very low speed, full-lock turn in the driveway that just barely wasn't tight enough.  The front wheel went just off the edge of the asphault and didn't have enough momentum to keep it moving and get it back up on the driveway.  It tipped to the inside of the turn, on the left side.  This one was the bigger pride injury (as I was actually on the bike this time), but interestingly left no evidence that I could find on the motorcycle.

I'm sure I could have put my foot down and kept it up, but I was focused on whether or not the wheel had enough room...another inch and I would have been okay.

The only time  (thank GOD)  I ever dumped was on my DR650 on the dirt track.

#1 First day I had it and I went out for a quick ride around my block and all was good until I cam into my steep driveway too fast, hit the big bump where the driveway meets the street, grabbed the front brakes hard, lost my balance and dumped it.

#2 Third day I had it I was trying to walk it across my sloped lawn and I was on the higher side so when I grabbed the front brake too hard it leaned too far for me to pull it back.

#3 Fourth day I came on the front brake too hard when I was trying to park infront of my house, it bottomed out and fell towards the curb. I put my foot out to try and save myself but my foot was too close to the bike to offer much psuhing power so I quickly pulled my leg out and laid it down on the curb.

Having said that I'm no longer a brake-happy newb and I haven't dumped it since. The GS came out of all those experiences with only some scratches on the handle bar ends, the mirrors and the pulse generator cover, I think thats what its called, but whatever it is it doesn't look like it says "Suzuki" on it anymore.

There's a through street that empties out pretty much right next to my house and offers a direct path to the highway...makes for a very quick shortcut through a tight, twisty, wooded street with nary a traffic light.  The problem is that on the side farthest from my house, it meets a cross street on a very steep slope and transitions very abruptly to flat ground.

I fear this intersection, and will gladly go the extra couple miles out of the way and suffer the traffic lights to not worry about it.  I have visions of hitting it too slow, too fast, leaned over, counter-weighted...all in all generally having a bad time of it.

Wow, that sounds about like me..   Except I drove through the limbs of a tree (ouch) in the dealer parking lot the day i got it, not 10 minutes after i got it... lol  Yea, I had never ridden before and got a little too comfortable too early and then lost it, jumped off the back and let the bike go...  bike went through the bushes and I went through the limbs.  Got away with a few scrapes and injured pride, but rode it home with no incident.

One thing I can say about it is, it's all down hill from here...  I after some situations like the ones you had above, I really don't care if I drop it.  Just so it doesn't break anything I'm good.  Scratches and scrapes are no longer an issue...   :dunno:
