Title: I NEED HELP QUICK, PLEASE!
Post by: oppy00 on September 30, 2005, 10:44:54 PM
OK, bad news I dropped my bike tonight, and I need/want to replace the handlebars, but I don't want to spend $70 for OEM bars from bikebandit.com.  I've done this before, and I got some aftermarket bars that worked perfect, but I don't remember what size they are.  I NEED tube size, pull-back, rise, and bar width sizes.  Please help quickly, as I would like to place the order tonight before I go to bed.  Thanks.

Also if I can get suggestions on better places to get OEM bars for $30 or so that would be great.  I just need good info.

Thanks

Will any of these handlebars work, and which ones are most like stock.

The Daytona Bend G looks like the right one to me, but it could be the european bend, or the touring bend.

I would also like to replace my grips while I'm at it so will these work?

or should I just get these which I have right now

Thanks for the help

I dropped my bike about a week ago and ended up getting bikemaster bars for $15 as this was the cheapest I could find. these bars have different shape from the stock bars I had before, but I acutally like it more. there were different shapes I was choosing from and I was told that it's all personal preference. since I am a noob I had no idea which to get and just got one that looked best to me :) I mean, at $15 I can go get another one if I don't like it. So it looks like the width of the tube is the only thing that matters (as there were thicker bars that I was told are 1" and would fit sport bikes rather then gs). this is all my experience with handlebars, hope it helps

actually I think new bars are a little longer, so I can see more in my mirrors, also helps :)

dude, just about any 7/8" bars will fit, it's just a matter of personal preferance on the rise and pull back.

I'm pretty sure I got the bikemaster bars before, but I'm just not sure.  Did the bar you but have the threaded ends for your barends to screw into?

Are these bikemaster bars the right diameter tube?  I can't tell

Anything that isn't what the dirtbike guys run (oversized to 1") they will work.  I just installed a set of cheapo aluminum dirtbike bars that were 7/8" diameter and everything works just fine, no control wire pulling or anything.

Just DO IT!

Thanks for the help, and if I remeber I'll post how things worked out.

if the bike is still ridable  cycle gear in LAWRENCEVILLE, GA 722 Collins Hill Rd (678) 225-0131 should be able to help you out.  and it's only about 3 hours away.  you could have bars on there tomarrow

clutch lever broke, so no riding until parts arrive.  I may skip class to fix the bike when the parts come in. :)
