Title: Need discussion ideas for club meeting
Post by: manofthefield on October 03, 2005, 02:02:14 PM
I'm pres of Full Throttle Motorcycle Club at MTU and i run our weekly meetings.  Usually we talk about rides or what we're gonna do, etc.  Seems like the last couple weeks I've been running out of stuff to talk about, except for designing/ordering club t-shirts.  Anyone think of any topics I could use?  Maybe informative/interesting articles to copy and distribute?

If you're running out of stuff to talk about, you could use of the "most common endless arguments" (cross posted from the general board):

Quote from: callmelennyNetcraft stats confirm the most common endless arguments:

1. which engine oil is best
2. which helmet is best
3.speedometer accuracy

"Man",

Ideas......

  1. Organize a "Fall Rally". A TSD rally(Time-Speed-Distance)on a bike is cumbersome and dangerous(rider distraction). Do a gimmick rally w/route instructions limited to a 8.5 x 11 sheet (to be taped to the tank). Or do a Fuel Economy Rally, topping off and "sealing" everbody's tank and ending the rally at another gas station and measuring what it takes to "top off the tank" again. Have displacement classes.

 2. Do a trivia test. Catagorize by your constituancy's interests. Tech quiz,  Marque trivia, motorcycle history, racing and track questions, European/Japanese/US motorcycle evolution, etc.

 3. A Motorcycle "Concours". Cleanest bike, oldest bike, most original bike, Brit bike, Italian bike, etc., highest mileage bike. Divide the classes to encompass as much interest and participation as possible.

Hope this helps!

maybe wrenching how too's for people that don't work on their own bikes.  Ask which people are good with a wrench and which ones just take it to the shop for everything.

Maybe arange a Garage Day where everyone goes to someone's house and works on their bikes. That's what our club does every now and again. We'll help people jet their carbs, install frame sliders, exhaust, lots of stuff.

Maybe you can plan a gym day or something? Something to introduce proper fitness to them. One thing about riding a motorcycle well is being able to throw the thing around. Plus you fatigue less easily if you're in shape, which is condusive to longer rides.
