So on my '05 F, according to the diagram in this thread:
http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16756
there are two wires goin to the to turn signals; a positive and a ground.
My question is, the new flush mount signals i have (12v 23w) have a red, black, and black/white wire. Im asuming a +, -, and ground.
Are these signals not going to work? I cant just leave the negative hanging, 'cause the signals wont blink, right?
Test the leads and see. One of those wires should be common, one will be the power for the blinker, and one is probably power for running lights.
why would turn signals have a constant power for running lights? You mean one wire makes em blink, one makes em just stay on, and one is ground? So i can tape off the constant one?
That's correct. The bulb will have 2 filaments. 1 wire will be common to both, and the other two wires will feed the different filaments. One filament is the blinker filament, the other is the running light filament. (The blinker filament will be brighter than the running light filament, this is why you have to test.)
I'd hook up the running lights to be more visible. Just hook them up to the keyed power. (When you turn the key on, the running lights will come on.) Or, as an alternative, hook them into the headlight circuit.
thanks. Ill hook 'em up as soon as im done filing down these aluminum pegs.. god its taking forever... even with a grinding bit on a drill.
FYI - 2005 GS500F
right side blinker from GS
black/white = ground
green = pos
left side blinker from GS
black/white = ground
black = pos
Flush mount blinkers like this:
(http://photos.imageevent.com/bikeguy/ebay/signals/turbulent/websize/4134-W-6-1.jpg)
black/white = ground
red = pos (hook this to the GS pos)
black = common (leave un connected)
If you mount them to the fairing via drilling two small holes, and tighten the front nut on down enough, they become flush with the fairing, no need to cut the fairing (to remove the bump), and the holes are so small you could fill them if you want to go back to stock.
When i switched all my signals on my 04 i had the same issue. The 3rd wire, as already so professionally stated, is to hook up as a running light. I just taped it off.
bargovic - how small are those screws really. i have LP carbon/clear short stalks all around, but have been wanting to switch to flushmounts for a while. i know airbrush used to make gaskets so u dont have to drill.

They are less than 1/2 a cm. pretty small, and they look great in the front. I didnt like the look so much in the back so i went with these:

And those fit in the stock plastic washer in the rear fender perfectly. They have the same size bolt and nut as the stock lights, but they are brighter and 1/4 the size. The only thing was i had to extend the wiring on them because they did not reach the stock connections. Between the flush up front and matching shortstalks in the back i think they look great. Plus i just put on some GSX aluminum foot pegs (grinded them down to fit).
You did?

that thread doesn't come up when your searching for flush mount signals
