A buddy of mine states: highway speeds, people not paying attn, people riding too close. Plus there were a lot of bikes...

There was someplace to go after the first crash, and from the first one up to about 6-8 was target fixation, I'd bet. After that, it's a matter of outriding your ability to escape or brake - if there's nowhere to go and you didn't leave yourself room to stop, sucks to be you.
at least those were the guys at the back, otherwise it would be 2000 not 15 bikes :o well, that's Russian end of the season for you... sad but true.. :(
