Quick question. I'm buying a new 500e and it kept stalling when I put it in first gear even though I have the clutch in. Then I read somewhere modern motocycles stall if the kickstand is down and the gear is engaged. Is this what is happening? Thanks

Maybe I should just have said yes...
*walks out, comes back*
Yes, it will.
And people wonder how I got my post count...
Post my mama!
Yes, Suzuki implements that on all their bikes from what I understand. It's to prevent you from riding off with the kickstand down, as that is a VERY dangerous thing to do. This ensures that you won't do something so forgetful as to put the kickstand up (I've done it MANY times). I'm glad Suzuki has it, personally.
Riding with the sidestand down isn't dangerous.
Turning left is...
does my '94 count as modern?
It is pretty funny to be behind someone who has their side stand switch disabled and they take off without putting it up. Hops the rear wheel off the ground several inches. I saw this happen on a Duc 999, just one of the many electrical problems on those bikes.
Its not an electrical problem man. Its a part available called a "sidestand by pass" switch, or you can re wire it to do the same thing. Ducs won't even let you crank with the stand down. (Always assume Ducs got an electrical problem :?)

well Man...his bike would not start if the stand was up or down. He had to disable it because of it. His head light and tail light would not turn off when the bike was turned off so he had to unplug those as well. Not an electrical problem? Then since you know so much explain what the problems is. I know 4 owners with 999's and every one of them have had electrical problems. Ducs will crank if the side stand is down, they have to be out of gear first. Get your facts straight before you critize.
Ouch, I guess someone doesn't like being challenged ;) Anyways I dunno if any of you guys are as retarded as some of the people I know but a kickstand kill switch can make for a fun afternoon. All you need is a soft grassy field and a couple retards on pretty much worthless or indestructable bikes. The rules are simple, first gear only, last man with a running bike wins  Not that I'd encourage or participate in such behaviour.
