bike: 2004 Suzuki GS500F, 10800 miles. dropped on right side stationary once, low-sided on right side at about 20mph once.
symptoms: when braking or even coasting from a high speed down to 25mph, there's a metallic clinking going on. goes away if i give the bike gas or get below 25mph. does not seem to matter what bike the gear is in.
notes: sometimes really have to force some of the shifting, otherwise i find another neutral gear in there. flush mount turn signals installed 3 weeks or so and 1000 miles after the low side, some of the push tabs/screws holding the fairing on broke, but the regular screws are fine and the fairings appear to be stable on the bike. noise didn't begin after the low side, but after the flush mounts were installed. fairly late on my last oil change and lubing the chain.
any ideas?
Check the chain.
+1 on Chain tension. Shouldn't be floppy, shouldn't be super tight.
Run a search on chain tension. We've had more than one thread about it.
twas the chain. glad it was something simple and not more serious.
odd thing is, i had just checked it last week when my friend i go riding with said it looked loose. apparently i can't visually measure chain slack very well.
thanks again guys.
