A safety tip:
If you will be buying beer, carrying beer, drinking beer, or anywhere there may be beer around, keep your eyes open and be prepared to protect yourself.
The safest thing to do is drop the beer and step away slowly. In cases where your beer is too precious to you (poor college students especially), carrying a knife is your best option.
from spending extended periods of time in national city/ chula vista I have aquired a habit of wearing a level III BPV along with my MC gear. knives and most small arms won't penetrate. neener neener neener.

So... The Louisville might help if he takes his helmet off. :?
Didn't like San Diego?
is carrie and david dating now?? did he move up there to be with roadstergal??
gossip gossip....
Kee, my living expenses had a 400% increase, which I couldn't afford.
and no, not that I whould mind bending her over my bike, we aren't dating.
So, you're actually moving up here? :?
Why? Seattle sucks!
Seattle doesn't suck! It's not the best ever, but it certainly doesn't suck.
Yeah, San Diego is ridiculously expensive. Makes me wonder how anyone can live here with the home prices. Good luck up there. Guess I will have to find someone else to work on my bike.
Seattle has been the #1 over-priced city for two years running... We've been top 10 for about 4 years.
Quote from: RVertigoSeattle has been the #1 over-priced city for two years running... We've been top 10 for about 4 years.
I found it interesting that Boston didn't make the top 10 overpriced, being that it's in the top 5 for cost of living. So...we just pay a lot more, but it's worth it? :?
Quote from: BadgerSo...we just pay a lot more, but it's worth it? :?
Yup!
Seattle costs a lot for no reason... :(
What does Bahston have that Seattle doesn't? Chicago has blues clubs and the Art Institute, New York has Times Square and the Metropolitan Opera, and Boston has... ? Even their accents are funnier...
Well, I'm not gonna defend the list since I didn't write it... But... Here ya' go:
http://moneycentral.msn.com/content/invest/forbes/P123785.asp
Thinking about it - I suppose if you only look in the city proper, living costs are high. But once you move out to the outlying cities that are convenient to Seattle, the prices do go down. Local cities - Bellevue, Shoreline, Federal Way, Issaquah, yadda - occupy a space that's about as big as the total size of a big city.
That being said, from my completely unscientific and non-comprehensive poking around, housing prices are indeed pretty nuts. Rental prices aren't bad if you shop around.
Yeah... Rentals aren't as bad if you have the time to look and you luck out and find a place you like, in a good location, for a price you can afford.
But... Living in Bellevue really sucks unless you're downtown... Then it only kinda sucks. Downtown Bellevue costs almost as much as Seattle... So, why not live in Seattle?
You have to pay me to live any farther than Bellevue... Squaw-Town just friggen sucks... Redmond is worse... Kirkland is just as bad as Redmond. BLEH!!!
Quote from: RoadstergalWhat does Bahston have that Seattle doesn't? Chicago has blues clubs and the Art Institute, New York has Times Square and the Metropolitan Opera, and Boston has... ? Even their accents are funnier...
Boston vs. Seattle? We have:
* Funny accents (noted)
* Four distinct seasons
* Foliage
* Sunshine
* An actual baseball team
* Ditto football
* Some very old buildings. Like before-this-was-a-country old.
* Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market
* Lots of places where, once upon a time, we fought the British, disposed of some tea, and generally made a nuisance of ourselves.
* Monuments to such.
* A high concentration of some of the best universities in the world (unfortunately, with that we also get the students...pity)
* We have a nifty new tunnel (thanks for helping pay for it, by the way). It only leaks a little.
* A comprehendable subway system
Quote from: Badger* Sunshine
It's actually fairly sunny here in the Summer. And not near as rainy as people think.
Quote from: Badger* Fanueil Hall/Quincy Market
Errr, there's an apartmant building named Fanueil Hall just up the street from me. :)

Our subway system in extremely comprehendable. It doesn't exist. Can you comprehend that?

What... You don't like the half mile of bus tunnel? :lol:
Speaking of public transportation... The thing that sucks the most in Seattle is the government's flagrant disregard for the voters' choices.

Cut funding for everything? SURE!!!
Actually build some public transportation? NO WAY!!!
Build ANOTHER damn stadium? OH YEAH! Let's make it TWO!![/list:u]
Quote from: aaronstjIt's actually fairly sunny here in the Summer. And not near as rainy as people think.
About 90% of the time that I'm in Seattle, the weather is fantastic...clear, cool, comfortable. When I comment about the lack of rain, my co-workers say, "You should have been here last week. You wouldn't believe the rain." Then they do this: :roll: I get the feeling they are hiding something.

No. They invented democracy in Athens.
Quote from: RVertigoDowntown Bellevue costs almost as much as Seattle
The place I rent in Bellevue is cheaper than any place I could find in Seattle - it's not big, but it's vewy, vewy quiet. As I get old and decrepid, I value quietude.

Allternately, you could become
decrepit, like the rest of us ancients.
(it had to be done) :nana:
seattle has 4 seasons, the problem is that your likely to experience all of them in a day.
sturgen fishing on the sound.
real mountians.
good beer.
there's plenty of foliage if you like evergreens
baseball, 10 minutes of action crammed into three hours
football. real football uses round balls. f%$k that american crap.
so you have old buildings. I'd bet they are moldy.
there's a bar district in seattle too.
schools are schools are schools.
screw your tunnel. :nana:
If you've ever seen the movie version of Brigadoon, Gene Kelly's co-star tells the gal who's trying to seduce him that he is "ancient, decrepid (pronounced very distinctly), and disintigrating rapidly." I always loved that line.
(Along with "Goooo... tend your flock!")
Oi. I haven't seen Brigadoon in ages.
My tape is dying from overuse... I wonder if they have it on DVD?
I'm actually not a Gene Kelly fan, but I love that one.
Aha!

Oh, c'mon, it's a great musical. I don't like most musicals, but Brigadoon, My Fair Lady, and Into The Woods are the exceptions.
I guess West Side Story counts as a musical, too... add that one.
I'll name all the musicals I love:
[/list:u]
That's all of 'em.
I like Newsies. That's a good musical.

The Wall? Tommy? Yellow Submarine? Moulin Rouge? Little Shop of Horrors? Wizard of Oz (it counts)? Rocky Horror Picture Show? Not even Grease?
Hrm...for some bizarre reason I was just overtaken by the need to watch O Brother, Where Art Thou? again.
Quote from: BadgerYellow Submarine?
Little Shop of Horrors?
D'oh, add two more.
Three, if Help! counts as a musical.
Sgt. Pepper?
No, I did not like the Bee Gees Try To Be The Beatles.
I had this girfriend one time.......
I'd bet on your tunnel being tighter.
Jesus Christ Superstar (opera, not a musical)
Paint Your Wagon
Nightmare Before Christmas
Hedwig And The Angry Inch
On The Town (loved it when i was a kid)
Anchors Aweigh (just to see Gene Kelly dance with Jerry Mouse)
i love the musical sequences in Magnolia (Save Me, Wise Up)
Hair

+1
The Wall? - Does that really count? I don't think so... It's more like a really long music video. I mean... The songs aren't sung by the people on screen... It's more about the content of the album on screen.
Tommy? - HATE!!!!!!!!! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tommy.
Yellow Submarine? - Stupid...
Moulin Rouge? - Never saw... Don't like musicals.
Little Shop of Horrors? - Eh... It was ok when I was a kid... Don't like musicals.
Wizard of Oz (it counts)? - Never liked... Too many annoying characters to hate.
Rocky Horror Picture Show? - Eh... It was funny once... I don't "Love" it.
Grease? - You gotta be kidding me...
O Brother, Where Art Thou? - Ah crap... Is that a musical? OK... I like this movie... Didn't really think of it as a musical.
no, no the greatest musical of all time is the Blues Brothers

No, not a musical...random train of thought.

Okay...I was taking a 'shotgun' approach, trying to cover all the bases. I was debating whether "Top Secret" might count (Skeet surfin'...It's alllriiiiiiight!)

O Brother...
Moulin Rouge
Phantom of the Opera (the new one)
The King and I
Chicago
Oklahoma (I still sing it to spell it)
South Pacific
Quote from: BadgerI was debating whether "Top Secret" might count (Skeet surfin'...It's alllriiiiiiight!)
There is the musical scene, but it's a parody of surf musicals... So, it doesn't count.
Great movie! :mrgreen:
And Blues Brothers is a great movie, but is NOT a musical...
