So- the facts: 98 with about 22K on it. Major overheating problem when stuck in traffic, on the highway, and even when running around town. bike starts and idles with ease at about 1500. give her about five/eight minutes of city lights and she's idling about 2500. If I run her on the highway above 6000 for more than five minutes, especially uphill, she stutters and dies when i engage the clutch. that sucks at 70mph in bridge traffic. This happens every time I'm on the bike.
This has been going on for about 1 year. It started gradually, and has gotten worse and worse. all seals and rings were replaced about 1 year previous by the dealer after an oil leak. Bike rode fine for a couple months then this problem developed. I don't think that these issues are related.
Psuedo remedy:If the clutch is let out while stopped, and the engine is allowed to stall ever so slightly, she returns to 1500 rpm. This is the only way i've found to keep the bike quiet.
I've ordered a jet-kit hoping that a richer mix will help her run cooler. Also- clutch is starting to wear out and probably needs to be replaced in a few months. :dunno: Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
sounds like sucking air from an Intake point of view, be it manifolds or seals in carbs themselves.
Turn the idle down to 1200 or 1300.
