I am always curious to read about what new bike someone got and how they are liking it. I like to know how they like it just by itself, and then how they think it compares to the GS. I didn't know Pastrana got a new bike (congrats :thumb: ), RG gets a new bike or scooter every week, and others seem to keep getting new bikes, and I love hearing about them.
So I figured I would start a thread dedicated to that: What bike did you buy after the GS, and how do you like it? Did you keep the GS? Do you still ride the GS? If not, do you miss it? Would you recommend the new bike to someone else? Any regrets? Suggestions? I'm Ron Burgundy??? :dunno:
So go ahead, let's hear it.

After the GS was totaled I picked up a '91 GSXR1100... Haven't ridden yet (back is still jacked up) but it looks really sweet in my garage. :thumb:
That's real gangsta. Put up some pics when you get a chance.
I have a Yamaha FZR600 that I bought on the cheap because the transmission is stuck in 6th gear. Haven't ridden yet (plan to fix it this winter) but it looks really sweet in my garage.
Too bad it's not stuck in first; that way you could at least cruise up to 45 or so :thumb:

Huh ... I have a virago 1100 that was giving me trouble shifting ... maybe its a yamaha thing ... BTW mine will up shift perfectly fine, and it will down shift 1 gear ... no matter what gear you in ... from 3 it will drop to 2, from 5 it will drop to 4 ... turns out the lever wasn't fully getting lifted by the return spring ... I just push it up with my foot and its perfect ... Try that on yours ... Mine was linkage issues ...
Cool.
Srinath.
I went with a gently used 2001 Yamaha R6 after my GS. I kept the GS, but found that I rode it very little with my new baby at my disposal and so I sold it. If I had it to do over again I would still have gone with a 600cc I4, but not a 99-02 R6. They are plagued by the now infamous "second gear" problem.
Not much later I traded the R6 in on a new 2004 SV650S. That bike RULES.
I just bought an '04 ZZR600..i rode it for the first time the other day...it still scares me....but it was good price and I couldn't pass it up, especially since it has a friendly seat height. The position isn't bad either, not that much different than the gs, and at least some wind protection.
Loved the SV to teeny bits, but couldn't deal with the suspension. I like the GSX-R, but it's just more bike than I am rider, and the mileage sucks. I don't like to ride it on the street because it's uninsured (legal in WA) because insurance is nuts. I think I would have preferred an SV - or even a GS - with major suspension mods.
The Burgman is ridiculously practical. It's the Honda Accord of bikes.
I miss my GSF and would love to have another.

Word, I gave you a nod in my first post in here. That is a killer bike, congrats again.

Does anyone have statistics on the percentage of posts RG mentions she misses her GSF? 85%? 105% (if she claims to miss it more than once a post)?
Do we adjust by the number of "use the SEARCH!!!!!" posts?
It's somewhere between the what-size-rear-tire, brakes-squeak, and purple posts in frequency.
A GS wasn't my first street bike. I started on a CBR F2. Bought a old GS for my short of inseam girlfriend to learn to ride. She bought herself a new one and I kept the old one to race.
If I could go back, I would have bought the GS first myself instead.
I bought my 05 GS this September, and in past 5 weeks I managed to put about 2K miles on it. There is nothing wrong with the bike. I miss two things: Higher wind shield for better highway wind protection and availability of hard luggage. I use it for commuting so reliability is the most important feature I look for.
Other bikes I looked at were...
BMW 650 and seat height is perfect but the 9K (with ABS) is way too expensive
VStrom 650 is another super duper bike and frankly it is better than BMW in terms of reliability, but the seat height was about 1.5 " taller than I would like.
So I figured while there is no such thing like a perfect bike let me enjoy GS. Buy the way what kind of oil do you guys put in your GS. I use regular valvoline 10-40 from wallmart.
Search "oil", you'll find a billion theories on what to use. I personally use Castrol GTX, just because I was putting it in the Corvette and stuck with the same brand.
Good work on the mileage, by the way; I've had mine since May or so and am only at 2500.
