Title: Finding a new Katana shock?
Post by: Chuck on October 21, 2005, 01:07:43 PM
I'd like to do the oft-mentioned Katana 600 shock swap, but I was wondering if anyone knows a good place to buy one new, instead of getting a used one of questionable value from eBay, for example.

Most of the online retailers (even SUDCO) don't seem to have Katana stuff.  JCWhitney seems to have crap in the way of shocks.

Assuming I find someone, when ordering, exactly what year and model should I say I have?  (I have an '01 GS, if it matters.)

Failing that, here's a link to a questionable used shock on eBay:

Is this the type of shock that would fit?  I don't know if $78 is a good price for a 4 year old shock, either.  Any advice on the matter is appreciated.

Thanks.

Hell no, $78 is a little steep for that.

I have not done the mod yet but I would like to in the future.

Did you read:

http://pantablo500.tripod.com/id12.html

On there, it states "The most recommended replacement shock for the GS500 is an '89+ Katana 600 standard issue. The katana was a GSX 600 F. In most cases Katana is the katana 600 (not 750 or 1100) from 89-02. "

Yeah.  But there seems to be a somewhat major change in the Katanas between '96 and '98, since most catalogs list parts separately for those years.  That's if they have parts for Katana in their catalog at all.  And if they do, they don't list shocks.

I thought I came close on MAW (http://www.accwhse.com/), but I can't find anything in their application list for a Katana 600.  It looks like one of those might fit, but I don't have enough experience to tell.  It would be nice to order from here, because they have a good price on the progressive fork springs, too.
