So, everything was going great until it fell over sideways and snapped the clutch lever. It sat for a couple of weeks waiting for parts, then I got the lever fixed without any real trouble. Now, though, it's not really running well; it starts up without much hesitation, and motors down the block ok, but after just a few blocks (maybe 5-10), it starts to bog down, lurch once or twice, then quit- almost as if the fuel petcock had been left 'off,' only there isn't an 'off,' and even if there were, the petcock isn't set there.
I'm willing, but don't have any real experience fixing this kind of stuff; I got my courage up and took off the gas tank, checked the air filter (looks ok), fuel filter (looks ok), and looked around for anything obvious, but got nowhere. It seems like this has to be something simple, since it came up more or less spontaneously, but I don't really know whare to begin. Help?
Under your tank there is a petcock that has on and off. You also might have knocked a few hoses loose. Check the connections and make sure the under-tank petcock is on.
No pinched hoses?
What about the other end of the clutch cable?
Did you try refilling the tank to full and seeing if it help? Does it do it all the time, even with a full tank?
:dunno:
the hoses all look ok, and the under-tank petcock was on (kind of a pain to reach in there and turn it off, actually). there were at least 2 gallons of gas in the tank. I don't really know how to check the other end of the clutch cable, but since it starts and shifts okay, I figured that was probably ok. . .
Yeah I don't know what the hell I am talking about. Just throwing out idears  .
Could it be some kind of a choke issue? One of the more technical guys might need to step in here, but I think (then again I am a mechanical noob) there is some kind of plate that must restrict/allow the fuel in the carburator to flow, to stop flow, or vary in flow. But then again I might be talking out of my ass. But if I am along the right train of thought, it seems perhaps that choke in the carb is shutting and not letting any more fuel flow through. :dunno:
took apart the tank, both petcocks, fuel hoses, fuel filter, air filter. nothing looked wrong. put it back together and it ran great. don't know what changed, but hey why not.
Might have been a little condensated water in the tank that ran through the carbs and caused the interuption.
