Title: Respect Other People's Property!
Post by: bryanwescoe on October 23, 2005, 10:00:29 PM
So I brought my bike to school last weekend, hoping to take a couple rides in the fall before its too cold outside.  I went out this morning for a few hours on a very pleasent ride.  I get back, lock the bike up and head off to work (in the cage).  When I get back, i get a call from my friend saying my bike is laying on the ground.  Not having any faith in myself for whatever reason, I think i just didnt park it correctly and it fell over on the left (kickstand side).  NO.  I get there and my bike is laying on it's right side still locked to the pole.  This means that someone physically tipped my bike over.  :x   I really dont know what to think.  I cant even imagine doing this to someone else.  Has anyone else come back to their bike after a few hours to it laying on the ground?  I mean its not possible that it was hit by a car or anything.  It was parked on a concrete pad, 6 inches higher than the parking lot chained to a pole.  It was definatly an act of malicious intent.

I'd pretty much vomit.  I'm sorry to hear about your bad luck.  Don't even bother trying to understand what was going through their head, you'll never figure it out.  There are few things worse than the feeling you get after something you love is carelessly vandalized.

Hows the bike?  Any dammage sustained?

Heh, forgot to even mention damage.  I got there an my barend was laying on the ground.  Sheared the screw in two.  It looks like that's all the damage other than a scratch or two on the Wileyco and the engine case  :(   So much for resale value.  My '91 had survived 14 years without seeing the ground and some idiot had to end that streak.  So yea, anyone got a spare bar end layin around, I'm interested. I didnt notice any other damage (plastics, tank, brake levers (front and rear))  It was dark outside so I probably missed something.

I hate people like that...they think that they have the rights to sit on other people's bikes...

one time i was getting out of the grocery store going back to my bike...and i saw a kid (~8 years old) on my bike...and his mom was taking a picture of him...i stayed calm and politely asked WTF he is doing on my bike...and guess what the mom say...she said why not?...it's parked in the parking lot...and there's no sign on it!!...i was shocked to even think that someone would think that it's OK to sit on other people's bikes...so i just asked for the direction to her car...and was planning on sitting on it...she kinda freaked out...and took the kid off my bike and yelled something at me and left...i wonder if she do the same to convertables...such BS :x

sorry about the "..." puntuation...it's too late at night :dunno:

 Some people are truly IDIOTS. Does she think all bikers carry a SIGN around with them for when they park? I woulda followed her to her car and sat on the hood and said, "What? It's in the parking lot and there's no sign on it!"

I would have a heart attack if she said you don't have a sign saying not to sit on it! I don't think I would be able to stay calm. My dad just told me that when he had a 58 corvette back in school, he went outside and there were 2 guys sitting in it. Just because the top is off means you can just hop in?

And sorry about the bike, I would kill the person who did that.

I've noticed a lot of these threads lately. Srangers touching your bike, knocking it over, wearing your helmet, putting chicken grease all over it... :x

I have not yet had to deal with it, but I'll be pretty pissed if/when it does happen.

I would rather have somebody tip my bike over when I'm not present than have them tell me to my face "well there was no sign on it!"

I can't even put it into words. . . :x

This is why I have an alarm with a perimeter sensor on my bike. Anyone messes with it, and they have to deal with all 5'4 1/4" of mean moi!  :x

I've had that happen on my ZX11 before....the guy having his kid on it...

You know if I'm there and they ask...SURE Gladly put him on there...it's a big thrill for the kid usually... But the "There's no sign on it..." What the Hell???? It is kinda funny that she thought that......

You know.... complete dis-belief funny/ what the hell planet are you from---funny...  and I would have went to her car and got in it...or on it...like on the roof...walked front to back a few times...

Ja, I would have followed her and sat on her hood.  "I didn't see a sign..."

That's just it - I have no problem with someone asking to look at my bike, take a picture with the person on it, yadda - I have no problem at all with that.  It's the presumption that's so bloody offensive...

Of course we'll usually (ok, almost always) let someone's kid sit on our bikes (under our supervision), take their pictures, and get their thrills, but it's absolutely not acceptable to touch ANYTHING ;) of anyone else's without permission.

Unfortunately, that woman is teaching her little darling that it's ok to do anything s/he wants with someone else's property, and little Johnny is going to be very surprised when someone takes a sledgehammer to his fingers after he touches the wrong someone's property.

sure, I'll video tape it, then we can put it on the net, and make MONEY off of it.... Lessee... I'll give you 35% of the proceeds, since you suggested it, bryanwescoe gets 35% of the proceeds, since it's his thread, and his bike that got knocked over, 20% to gstwin.com to keep it up, and 6% to me to eventually pay for a GS for me.. and maybe part of my tuition... 1% to Srinath, cuz he helps out so much here, and the other 3% is split between Pantablo to help repair his cbr, and davipu, just cuz I think he's funny...

I know how you feel about people messing with your bike. It happened to me back when I was in high school. I walked out to go on my lunchtime ride only to find some random freshman sitting on my bike. I happily told him to get the f%$k of my bike before I shanked him in the kidney. He obliged and scampered away, urine trailing down his leg. I still wanted to shank him...
