Does anyone know how to remove the rust from inside the fork / triple tree hole on the frame?

That and some naval jelly is your best bet to get it out.  The biggest thing you have to worry about is not damaging (scratching, denting, pitting, etc) the bearing races that are pressed into the ends of the tube.  You could pull and replace the races to let you go to town, but that is a project in itself.

Since this area is unseen, what you could do is mask off the races' bearing faces and then spray rust-converting primer (the stuff that turns rusty patches black) into the tube, let it dry and then close it back up. It should stop the corrosion.

If you have a Dremel or other brand rotary tool, you might try the abrasive buffs that have a texture like gritty Scotchbrite. Sears sells them with a mandrel. Lowe's sells them without the mandrel.

They look like cotton balls that grew up in a rough neighborhood. There are two types in the pack of two. I completely cleaned up brake caliper parts that were nearly rusted over. Almost no evidence that there was any rust at all.

Neither store shows them on their online listings so you would have to hoof it to get it. Lowe's has it branded as Dremel 511. Sears as Craftsman.

are you talking the steering stem....between the bearings.....????

wire brush sand paper steel wool....what ever to knock off the big chunks
then
put a layer of grease on it to seal it
also use 2-3 times as much grease on the bearings than you think you need.

if you are talking the inside of the steering stem.........
you are WAY TOO ANAL.....
