Title: Chaparral sux :(
Post by: Soaring on October 26, 2005, 02:09:12 PM
Subj... I wanted to buy the pants to feel more secure (so that there's no reason not to lean more  ;) ). So I figured chparral is a large store so I'd take this one hour drive, but will be able to try many different pants... well, I drove for an hour all right, but there were almost no pants! the whole store is filled with jackets and for pants all they had was Joe Rocket (just a few models, but Davipu talked me out of JR anyway), one model of MotoGP (not in my size) and one Cortech, that kinda fit me but was more expensive then I expected... so no pants for me :( ... I still got myself a new bigger helmet, so hopefully no more headaches for me and a nice Cortech 12L tankbag, so it was not a total waste... still feel kinda insecure without some pants.

Anyone in Los Angeles area knows a good local place to shop for pants? Any ideas would be appreciated, cause all I can think riding on the highway is that I still don't have my moto pants  :x

Any idea of what pants you're looking into? Leather? Mesh? Brand? Style?

Berts Megamall has a big selection usually...they were on your way to Chaparral, in Covina I think.

well, now that I think of it, it probably was not worse in terms of pants, but it was almost only JR. but their helmet selection is really limited

if manufacturers stop distributing them, there's not anyone can do about it.

I had to order my pants...   :(   Oh well, at least they're on their way...  I hope.

This time of year sucks for buying anything but new cars/bikes.

I am actually going to buy them online too, I just wanted to try them on first because people say they have to be real snug on you. oh well... may be I'll just order something and hope that it fits... I tried the Cortech ones and my regular size fits perfectly over my jeans, so can I assume that I need to get my regular size from any brand? I've read that people like HT air, would it be a good choice for SoCal all year riding?

I would start with your regular size and go from there. .  if they dont fit send them back.  Most companies will work with you.  I had to send back my boots twice to get the size that fit me.
Besides each manufactuer has their own sizeing chart.  Looking at my jeans I have about 3 different waist sizes. . . yet they all fit me perfectly.

I would go to the Cycle Gear in Lomita, I've been able to try on a few different pants there. They are having a sale this Saturday on tires and the lady at the store told me that everything in the store was going to be 10% off. I'm going back.

Also check out Del Amo Motorsports, it's the one I go to, but I don't think they had much in the way of OT pants.

Also I just went to Bert's last weekend as well and they had nothing in the way of pants. I'm still looking to try on different pants and Cycle Gear has been my best bet.

Yep that's the one. They seem to be the only shop that has some selection, it won't be huge, but at least you might get a chance to try some on. I did end up buyins some over pants from them. I think I bought some JR Phoenix pants?

Did you look at Chaparall in with the full leathers?  I found a bunch of pants mixed in with the suits last time I looked.  But yeah, lots of Joe Rocket.  Stock is weak right now too, sortof feels like at the end of a ski season...

If it happens to matter to anyone, CycleGear can be total asses when it comes to respecting their customers, and I wont go there. (Short version: a store manager ridiculed my wife for being a vegetarian).

Do you do it at work (ok, bad question...)? How about as a store manager? with a $150 sale on the line? You just shouldn't pick on any client for any reason, its just stupid. Oh, and I complained to their corp. headquarters, with no responce.

That's why I make it a personal rule of mine. Never discuss my eating habits with the guy at a motorcylce shop. So far no one has said anything to me. :)

(slightly longer version: he pestered her into telling him why she wanted non-leather pants).

Drive on over to Terra Power Sports (http://www.terra-powersports.com/). Call them and ask about their stock before the trip.

ok, so I went to Terra and it happened to be a tiny place with almost no stock, so I figure they are good only for online orders. Since I was getting more and more uncomfortable riding without protective pants I paid another visit to Bert's and got Cortech GX pants since they are selling them with a discount and I was able to try them on and I didn't know what to expect from the pants anyway. So I feel like I am all set for my next ride  :thumb:

also got new front brake light switch there (mine was broken) and new oil filter (as I was riding in PRI for the last month and after reading one of the threads here I went to smell what my oil looks like and sure enough it smelled like gas  :x so just changed my oil an hour ago... life is good again :) )

We are going out of town tomorrow with our friends, but I don't want to miss the weekend ride, so I figured I'll probably get up early and meet the sun on the ACH. Just checked, sunrise is  at 7:11am, so if anyone wants to join pm/im me
