Title: Is my BRAND NEW CLUTCH messed up or is this normal??
Post by: streetsweeper on October 27, 2005, 05:23:04 PM
When I'm cruising at any speeds really, sometimes when I'm downshifting through the gears (say, from 4th to 1st) while in the midst of coming to a stop, my clutch will sort of make a CLUNK noise in all of the gears until I get to 1st. And sometimes, it's like it stays in neutral and then it will "grind", but I think that might be my fault, maybe I'm not pushing down hard enough, but that can't be because Neutral is between 1st and 2nd and sometimes it'll do this when I'm going down from 4th to 3rd to 2nd. I dunno, it's under warranty ('05 GS500f), but only for one year. Should I take it to the dealership and let them ride it?

Like I said though, sometimes it does it, MOST of the time it doesn't.

You might be trying to downshift a little early...  Try matching rev when you downshift...  Or try downshifting a little later, when you're going a little slower.

There will be resistance when trying to down shift without matching a high rev.

Alright thanks, but I'm referring to when I'm coming up to a stoplight, for example, and I'm in 5th gear, I pull in the clutch and downshift all the way to 1st without letting the clutch out, so it's sort of a rapid fire type of thing, down down down down. Is this too much for it to take? If so, what should I do then? Keep it in the same gear until I'm stopped, then go all the way down to 1st?

I know this is confusing, I'm trying to word it as well as I can.  :dunno:

Hmm...  I do that...  Coming up to a light I stay in what ever gear I'm in until about 2K RPMs, clutch, then shift all the way down to 1st shortly before I stop.

No problems here. :dunno:

Oil level too high/low?  Other than that...  You got me.

Also, the "neutral" you're seeing is a false neutral, and not that uncommon.  Lazy shifting is the culprit.

Rofl just aout to say that.

Downshift one gear at a time, stay in gear in case you need to haul ass and move very quickly.    Don't take away your own mobility.
