Carpools: I have a 4WD Exploder and a 4-Board ski rack... (Assuming the 4WD still works. :dunno: ) But, I like to show up around noon and stay until I can no longer walk (usually pretty late, 8-9ish)... I'm down with going earlier, but I'm still going to want to stay late ('cause night boarding is fun!)
Feel free to cast votes for your friends (as long as they'll ACTUALLY come along)...
Also!!! Any boarding newbs out there? I know several people that are still learning to snowboard and always offer new boarders pointers and help... :thumb: (Skiers are on their own since I don't know how to ski... :dunno: ) I'll usually hang out with the newbs until everyone has a basic concepts of getting the gear on, standing up, getting on/off the lift, and heal plowing down the bunny hill... Then I'll take off for a while and come back later to see how things are progressing... Repeat.
OK... SNOW!!!
I'll vote for Steven's, saturday or sunday works for me, and somtime between the buttcrack of dawn and noon.
And I call two spots in the Exploder, if I can. If not, I can drive myself (but it's always nicer to ride in a 4wd with ski rack).
Coolio... It all depends on who's going on what day and how late they wanna stay...
I like to get the most outta my money.
I can seat 5 and get 5 boards, as long as one of them is pretty small... My wife's board is a child board, so it's plenty small. My sister's board is pretty small too... But, I have a 161, so it's kinda huge.
The best way to do a trip is to fill a vehicle, so everyone can split gas... Ends up being cheaper. :thumb: Season before last, I went snowboarding three times by myself... Not very economical, but it's worth it... I'd even front gas if people didn't have the cash.
My wife is quite small, and we both ski. Skis + poles take up a little less room than boards, in my experience.
:thumb:
Yeah... They're long, but you can usually stash them a little easier than snowboards.
->insert-> just read the last two lines if your lazy, because I'm too lazy to clean this up right now->insert->
Lets see.. Yes this sounds fun.
My votes!
Location: Steven's Pass is good. Anywhere else is fine too. Mt. Baker closes at 5pm if anyone didn't know. How about Whistler/Blackcomb ??
Day: depends on the time.
--> If noon: any day I don't have to work the next. (sat/sun)
--> If early as hell: any day I dont have to work and dont have to work the next one. (probably a sat)
Time: see above.
If anyone has a vehicle but can't carry stuff, I can take a ranger. It would hold everyones stuff plus some. (ive always wanted to bring a bbq... )
We should take our bikes! :thumb:
Btw, is this suppose to be a recurring event, or one time shot? If its only once, then everything depends. If its going to go on all winter, (ill be poor!) I vote sunday.
Also, I reserve the right to back out if the snow season sucks ass. FYI I ski now, but only after skiing for 4 years, the boarding for 6, and then getting tired of boarding.
I'll have to ask my friend if he would like to come.
Awww, you know what! we should instead plan for next year, that way we can all get $290 season passes.
So, in conclusion of my long winded post: any day you picked (even by me) will be a toss up on if I can come. Although if theres about a month advance, I can ask for it off, and most likely get it. So, any day is fine. I guess I am going to change my vote for the third time this one post.
Stevens/Saturday/BreakO'Dawn
We should take our bikes! :thumb:
Sounds like fun :thumb:
My wife and I would love to go
my vote:
-Crystal or Stevens
-Saturday
-little after "Butt-crack of dawn" through "night skiing"
We have a two door 200sx (not good for snowboarding) and the GS (lets take the GS's)
but our being able to go would depend on the date and I would need to get a new board (I broke mine)
I don't know anything about snowboarding or skiing. I would like to go but I would just get mess up everyones fun. I plan on renting some equipment this year and taking a few lessons.....Maybe next time.....thanks for the offer.
I'd love to go.
Never been to Stevens so I vote for Crystal/Stevens as those are way better then Snoqualmie.
Day = Saturday/Sunday because either works for me.
Time = I like morning to afternoon riding, so butt crack = afternoon would be my vote.
Thanks for the invite, and I hope to see meet everyone there.
Coolio! Looks like we have some interest!!! YAY!!!
Hey Jeppy, you're not gonna wreck everyone's fun!! There are other people out there that are learning... It's just about how long you want to be on the mountain and finding rides that match up.
I'm a little crazy and like to stay a long time... There may be other people that want to stay a few hours. We just need to match up the people...
If you've never gone, you can go with people and they can help... Or you can take lessons. :dunno: It's up to you... I never took lessons, I learned from watching other people and talking to my friends about what works. Like I said, I'm willing to hand out pointers and hang around until you seem to get the basics... I won't just ditch people when I tell them I'll help out... :nono:
I have a few other friends that have never gone... I guarantee newbs will have company.
I talked to my friend, he says he would go. Obviously only when/if I go.
He voted, close(stevens)/anyday/anytime
:thumb:
Updated!
Sweet... Looks like we might be able to get a decent group together...
I think we need more newbies... It's way more fun to learn with other people.
Yeah, It's true, more people that fall and are slow help you feel like you fit in ;P
Actually it will probably take me a few runs till i figure things out again.
Damn.. I'm jealous.. always wanted to try snowboarding... I'll have to get up there with you guys sometime...
if there are any other Oregon carnies that want to crash the party lemme know I'll probably be taking the truck up and bringing a bike back
make sure davipu has a few cups (read: POTS) of strong, black coffee to sob.... er.. I mean... uh.. WAKE him up before he drives....  :thumb:

AH! :o No way! Stevens Extended the season pass' sale till friday the 4th (tomarrow). I'll call once I get home, but if it's $300 for the season, I might take them up on it. Thats like 6-7 times to break even. Then if I can get my friend to get one too, we'll be going alot this winter.
PS. Their web site doesn't list lower prices, but it does say call. Too bad we can't get 20 of us, then we could get group discounts :D (and we'd need a bus!)
$300 for the Full pass or the Weekday pass? :?
Quote from: RVertigo$300 for the Full pass or the Weekday pass? :?
Full I hope. Well, their site says sale, and I believe the normal price is $730.. Plus season passes usually are ~300 during the summer, and that is the only 'sale' I knew of.
.. :guns: @$#@$#@$ :x well so much for that. It is on sale, at $730. It goes up to $840 Tomarrow! wow, what a load of crap. I wanted my season pass @ $300  . Maybe I should take 12 credits at a college, and get the full pass at the student price of $280
Ok, so I'll just go less then 16 times, and be good. :thumb:
Newbs at boarding:
This may not be the case for Skiing, but boarding is way easy on an easy blue hill then on the green hills. The green hills usually don't have enough slope for you to learn how to side-slip and turn. In boarding, especially when you first start, you hardly ever ride with the bottom of the board flat on the snow. ONe usually tends to stay on an edge. However, on flat spots you have to ride flat in order to keep the speed up. Riding the board flat is how lots of people catch an edge and either do a chin or back of the dome landing. A hill with a little more slope allows the rider to stay on an edge and either lean into the hill or away from the hill. This may all sound difficult, but you'll see what I mean when you first start.
My suggestion is to go up the bunny hill once or twice in order to learn how to get on and off the lift. After that get to a steeper hill to learn how to turn. Don't bother with lessons because other boarders (I volunteer for this) can teach you the basics without the price of lessons.
Hope to see everyone there!
There... Two teachers now... :thumb:
I usually tell people how much easier it is to learn on a slightly steeper hill, but I never press the issue... Fear ends all learning. :dunno:
Once you figure out how to stop without falling over, it's time to move to a steeper hill and leave the flat stuff to the skiers (since they have polls and can stop/start without hassles).
Quote from: RPostwhoreFear ends all learning
Very sage of you... but what's this fear thing you speak of?   :thumb:
I agree, slopes make it easier to stay on an edge, but they might end up going to fast, and falling hurting more => not fun. Also, they might end up spending the whole day snow plowing. er, just going down board sideways, and sitting/falling when they get uneasy becase of the hill.
Although, on the steeper hills, theres not a boat load of people everywhere, sitting, standing, stalling, falling, rolling, .. you get the idea.
So, a blue might be good, but a good thought process/teacher can probably make you better qucker on easier slopes, where you can concentrate on skills and not your fear.
Quote from: I Wish I Had a Motowhat's this fear thing you speak of?
Most people have a hard time with mountain fear... Fear of speeding out of control, crashing into something, and dying...
Not really sure why though. :dunno:
Quote from: NightRyderthey might end up spending the whole day snow plowing.
If you can move on to turning and/or carving on the first day, you're a bad ass...
Most people spend a huge part of the first day trying to plow heel, then toe... Then about when they run out of steam they are switching between heel and toe.
I know a few people that spent a really long time getting plowing and turning down (me)... It took me a long time to get up to carving... In fact, I gave up on carving for a while and moved to jumps. Then I figured out that it's easier to control your jump when you know how to ride. :P

Ah, btw, I just looked, and wtf :? Crystal is 3 miles closer then Stevens Pass. How that works out is beyond me. Stevens is 65 miles from Everett, and Crystal is 62, but is south of Kent! I still like stevens though. (different might be better though) Though, the drive up to Stevens has to be nicer. Not much city, lots of moutain. Though, if you Seattle people want to go to Crystal because it is closer to you, that is ok. Ha, though though though....
So far the trend seems to be for Steven's... Distance doesn't really matter to me... Snoqualmie is closest, but I never go there 'cause it sucks. :dunno:
I'll go, I havent been for a few years. My vote goes to Stevens as I have been there many times, and its closer than Crystal. Sundays work better but either day if it fall right.
Well, Mr. Thread / Event Coordinator, where are we at, and how much longer are we going to wait? Not that I am trying to rush you.. :D Seriously, I'm not in a rush, at all.
Just wondering when I can start to plan to plan to start.
Don't leave it up to me... If you're going up, just tell people!
I REALLY wanted to go this weekend, but I knew it wasn't going to work out....
I'm keeping my eye on the snow reports!!!
Oh, I see how it is ;)
I thought you were going to organize something cool/ :)
This weekend, I got my bike working. Then I rode around. Much better then some snow. ;p Even if I was wearing my snow gear.
I'm kinda waiting for one of two things to happen...
1. Night skiing opens somewhere...
or
2. I can't take it any more.[/list:u]Steven's open on the 9th... But, Crystal has more snow... Neither has night skiing yet.
I will try to organize something, but... Don't let me stop you from trying to organize something.
OK... I'm getting close to the "I can't take it anymore" catagory...
I can't go next weekend, but... I'm thinking maybe Thanksgiving Weekend... Unfortunately, it will probably be pretty busy... Judging from the current snow, there will still be no night skiiing and very little off-trail type stuff. I doubt the back-side of Steven's will be open...
BUT!!! I have Friday the 25th off.
So, if the snow keeps up, anyone wanna go... Maybe? Anyone? Anyone?
... mount hood is already open. 51 inches at medows
Steven's is open with 36" at the base, but they don't have night skiing yet... They're open 9-4 and the back side of the mountain is still closed... 2 hour drive.
Crystal Mtn has 31" at the base and 48" at the summit... 2 Hour drive.
Baker has 69" at the base... Open 9-3:30. 3+ hour drive.
Mt Hood Meadows SNOW SETTLED AT BASE: 40" Open 9-4... 4+ hour drive.
I was talking to my wife about going on the 25th... She "reminded" me that we have plans to hang out with the little sister, since her 21st Birthday is on the 21st... I think she'd be pretty mad if I left at 5am and got home at 8pm. :(
QuoteMt Hood Meadows SNOW SETTLED AT BASE: 40" Open 9-4... 4+ hour drive.
that's not what they had on the local news.
I wasn't yelling BTW... I just coppied off their page.
I'd bet the 40" they have is actually 40" vs everyone else... I don't think many mountains are honest about their snow cover.
whould you give a honest number if your income depended on it?
Quote from: davipuwhould you give a honest number if your income depended on it?
That's part of my job right now.
So, no.
Yeah, the 25th would probably be crowded like crazy. Even still I have it off. Too bad for the snow, I am going out of town. I can't do it this weekend either, next one I'm going to be gone, and then the following one I work. That leaves 10/10-10/11 as the next time I could go. Although I have a few random days off during the week for the rest of the year. I might go then. I suppose if I can buy a pizza for $20, then skiing for a little over twice that is a bargain.
12/10-12/11 right?
OK... I'm still not sure about the 25th, but I'll keep updating...
And... Let's plan on 12/10 or 12/11 unless something changes... :thumb:
We have a whole winter to work it out, so no worries about plans changing. :thumb:
oh, yeah. 12/ not 10/ heh.
Alright, it's a plan for now.
I was up at Crystal last weekend and it was great. I went Sunday, and they had about 2 inches of fresh stuff. The snow was light and the day turned out to nice and fairly clear, although a little windy at the top. I'd say it was an 8 out of 10 only because there were still some bear spots and it wasn't 100% sunny.
I'm off Thursday - Sunday, but I'm going to Canada on Friday. 12/10 and 12/11 will probablly be good for me since I don't have any plans then.
Did alot of riding this weekend with the new gloves. I don't like the thicker feel of the gloves, but I was warm and rode for an hour without getting too cold. I'm not going to pack the bike in for a while yet, and hopefully will be able to ride tow work with the new gloves and rain jacket.
I've been keeping my eye on the snow reports... Nothing new right now... I'm still thinking about going on Friday (even though it will piss off the wife)...
And... You get used to the thicker gloves, then your thin one feel weird.
Well, I didn't go today 'cause I was up late (drinking), but it's snowing in the passes right now... So, I'm thinking maybe tomorrow... Hmm...
OK... I'm planning on going up Sunday... Unless plans change. Hopefully they won't.
Who's down?
Phooey. I was gonna go on Sunday, but then my plans changed, and I'm probably going tomorrow. Irony.
Bastard... Go on Sunday.
Sunday, sunday, SUNDAY!
I'm going to Steven's pass tomorrow... Aiming to get there at noon. Who's coming? PM me (or call if you have my #)
Yay for working on weekends.. :x
Quote from: NightRyderYay for working on weekends.. :x
Quit and come snowboarding. :thumb:
OK... NEXT!!!
Saturday the 10th. Who's down?
I'm thinking Steven's again... Showing up around noon. Reply or PM me and we can make plans. :thumb:
Alright! I want to g.. /ponders if he wants to really spend $50... :?
tickets, gas, food.. hmmr
8 Ball says: Too soon to tell, take two pills and call me in the morning.
Well... You're going to be eating if you go or not... So, you can't really count that one.
And the price goes down at noon and 4:00... :thumb: So, either get there at noon or 4:00.
Alright, unless we don't get my friends bike fixed today, we'll probably go.
If it's not fixed, Saturday is the next fixin' day; unless I can talk him into fixing his rear brake on Sunday. Probably not though, it squeaks like a Mofo.
/me digs into drum brake fixing.
Bah! He doesn't need the rear brake anyway. And squeaking isn't really a "problem."
Yeah, that sounds good to me. I told him, "Meh, just go with it till Sunday."
He couldn't stand it. So we fixed it. Turned out his rear wheel had slipped back and tightened the brake. Kinda like leaving the brake on..
It was actually really squealling too. Nice and loud.. :D
So, the answer is: We're going. We want to get up there when it opens though.
Well, I can guarantee that I won't be there before 11:30 at the earliest...
Maybe we can come up with a way to find each other... My cell no worky up there, so that's not an option. :(
Hmm, alright. That should work. Uh.. I could wear my bike gear. That would stand out. .. then you could find me. :P Seriously I'm thinking of it.
Besides that, I donno.. do you have a walkie-talkie? One of thoes with 2+ mile ranges? I have some cheepie ones with just the standard 14 channels. No security code/channels. (free with a honda test drive  ) Or we could try to ask each and every person if they surf the amazing great best-evar gstwins.com. Or set a time and place, and stand around up there looking like fools. Unfortuntaly I think being fools is the best way. Actually.. there is a small chance I will bring the BBQ.. and you could find us BBQing it up at a set time in the parking lot. hmm...
Common other people. Come to Stevens Pass. Do it. You'll be cool. Have fun. Make friends. Spend Money. Freeze to death. Get sore.
Actually it should be a nice day tomarrow. Sunny, clear, good clean fun. ..
:?
Alrighty, then. I am planning on staying till after dark at the least. (get my monies woth, ya know?)
I plan to park infront of the Brook's chair. We're going to take the BBQ, unless it is out of gas. I think meeting during lunch would be nice. Our plan is to eat around the BBQ, in the back of the truck probably. I figure we will probably get hungry about 12 to 1. I am not into paying for food inside, nor fighting for tables. So lets meet at 1pm*. Out by my truck. It's green, will have a BBQ in it, and we should be parked close to the Brook's chair. I have never brought the BBQ up, so I'll find out if I prefer the warm inside instead.
Whada think?
*I reserve the right to break a leg or get stuck in 10 feet of snow and miss the appointment. Barring that, I might change the time after I talk to my friend.
 DAMNIT! I should have just gone...
I figured it would be slush at the top, which isn't really that bad, and ROCK HARD ICE at the bottom. :dunno:
I guess I'm stupid. :nono:
Well, we'll see about the weekend after the weekend after next.
No snow, no snow...
Looks like maybe next weekend... :dunno:
Monday?
I'm not sure anyone else can go... But, I'm looking into it...
What do you guys think?
~yawn~
oh, hey look at this place...
This is the first time I've been able to get away from the meetings and greetings and holiday cheer. No skiing this weekend, including monday, due to over population of this household by visitors, etc.
On a better note, I bought some new tires; the Pirelli Sport Demons should be nice once they get here.
Quote from: NightRyderOn a better note, I bought some new tires; the Pirelli Sport Demons should be nice once they get here.
I sure like mine...
Well, maybe next time... I'm heading out the door for the mountain right now!! :thumb:
Yeah, thoes (correct size) sport demons are cool. muuuch better then the 130/90's kendas they replaced.
There was some small thought of going skiing this weekend, maybe monday.
Then again, there was the huge, much-needed house cleaning needed too...
I have Monday off too... But, I've been fighting an awful sickness...
I guess we'll see... :thumb:
