Title: Comfort on a GS500?
Post by: throwback on November 02, 2005, 02:10:39 PM
I am approx 6'2" and can't really tell how a GS500E would fit my frame from the 10 minutes I have ridden on one.  Any opinions?  I really like the bikes from what you guys say on here, but have owned a bike in the past that I looked a bit too big on.  Maybe the fact that I am much bigger (i.e. fat) than I should be makes the diff.  I found one for sale that I like, but don't want to purchase it, then feel like I should not have due to size.

I'm between 6'1" and 6'2" and the bike fits great. My only basis for comparison is an '84 Honda CB125, but I feel good on the GS5. As for weight...I'm stuck at 174 so I can't vouch for any heavier.

Go to a dealer and sit on one in a riding position for 30+ minutes...

Make sure you make "vroom vroom" noises the whole time.

It's just not realistic if you don't!

I think you guys are being smartasses ;) But I think you have a point. When I went to look at the GS for the first time, I sat on it for a few minutes. I adjusted the mirrors and swayed from side to side..tried different seating positions. It was kinda hard on the sidestand, but it was still doable. If I had know about the center stand, I woulda had that sucker propped up on that sitting there eating my lunch.    A prim, ary reason I bought my Gs was because it "felt right". If I had not taken the time to sit on it for a while and really get a feel for it, I might not have bought it as off the cuff as I did. Others I sat on - like a damn Ninja - just felt awkward and odd. One of the best things about the GS is how I feel ON it. So i suggest doing the same.

Or look for a local GS rider courtesy of the gs rider map and see if they will let you take theirs for a spin?  :dunno:

General conscesus seems to be that it's fine for riders as tall (or taller) than 6'5".

A good topic: http://www.gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20520

Or, just search for "ergonomics" or "tall riders"

Well if you're overweight and have bad knees, sportbikes probably won't be too comfortable for prolonged periods of time. But if you're even semi flexible, it should be okay. I'm 6 ft. 2 and about 190-195 pounds and I fit PERFECT on my '05 GS500F.  :dunno:

also if you are worried about your appearance maybe you could sit on one and have a friend take a picture.  Then you could see for yourself.  I think if it is comfy enough for you and you like it it will be fine.  I am 190-200lbs, 5'11" and i love my 05.
