Title: Quick oil question (don't kill me)
Post by: My Name Is Dave on November 03, 2005, 11:06:50 AM
I just had a quick one regarding oil changes. Is there a deal like on cars where it's X miles OR X months, whatever comes first? I ask because I'm at 2500 and won't be getting near 3000 anytime soon due to God having a peeing festival in Oregon (fall and winter...boo). So it may very well be 5 months before I hit 3000 miles. So should I go by a X months routine?

Thank you, come again.

I am going to assume that at your 600 mile service, your oil was changed then. So you have only gone what, 1900 or so miles since your last change?  :)

But anyways, if it were my bike..I'd go ahead and change the oil anyway. Maybe not the filter but atleast the oil. Oil degrades about the same (if not worse?) whether it is in a car or a bike, so I'd go by months/miles whichever comes first. Afterall, the oil doesn't know it is in a bike and not a car.

But then again, I dunno anything.  :P

Thank you and thank you. I changed it at 600 and 1000, so it's been 1500 miles now and about...I'd say 4 months. I may as well change it, just because it will be sitting all but 1 or 2 days a week.

Thanks folks.
