Title: Burning oil? How long does it take? - Also, crush washer?
Post by: TarzanBoy on November 04, 2005, 09:00:33 AM
I changed my oil about 2 weeks ago and a little bit spilled on the exhaust pipe as it drained out.... so I wasn't surprised when i smelled it burning and saw the smoke rising after I started riding.

However, 2 weeks out, I still get the smell (albeit not as strong) and see a fine smoke rising from the bike.

I haven't had a chance to check the pipes.. but how long should it usually take for it to burn off?  My oil level in the engine is fine.

Also, I noticed that oil will leak out the bung after I've ridden the bike.  I guess I will need a new crush washer after all.  Where can I order one?

If it is leaking out.. then it will never go away.

Or it will go away, but only after all the oil has leaked out and burned off..

uh.. Yeah! .

Oil usually takes 20 mins to burn off when I spill it all over. Or less. How much do you ride? Maybe it never gets hot enough to burn quickly?
