At least the money will be used for a good cause.

more likely he went to give the ring and found her in bed with another guy. So he made the logical choice and went for a bike.

Either way i like my moto better than i do that ring......maybe he was going to pop the question and the girl was like "you got me this POS, hell NO"  Not my style of ring....

Yeah, that's sort of what I thought.  But isn't Attila generally a female name, at least post Attila the Hun era?

If it is a gent, I think the half carat probably did him in.  That's just not enough now-a-days me thinks  :(

no, What happened, was: she went to give him a ring, and he was busy staring at another chick on a motorcycle, so she wants to get one.

.. Really! I was there! ...

That is a hell of a good deal, really. I'd totally give up my GS for a ring like that for my girlfriend. I love her that much

Fortunately, I don't have to give up the GS since she already has one. WHEW!!!

Could be the result of an "it's me or a motorcycle" moment.  Whoops.

I'm not a diamond or jewelry expert, but 14k gold is fairly cheap, 1/2 carrat diamond, and 6 specs of sand totally 1/2 carrat, ain't that much.  I think he got ripped off by the jeweller.  I really don't think that ring is worth $8k, or even the $5k he paid.  Would one of you ladies please clarify this for me.  I'll be buying another bike before I buy a ring, but still it would be good to know.

It depends on the clarity/flawlessness of the diamonds.  I have seen 1/2 carrot rings that cost way more than 8k because the diamond was very clear and had few flaws, even though all natural diamonds have flaws.

Edit: also color, can't forget to mention that.

The size is only one factor of the value (Cut, Color, Clarity, Caret Weight).  I'd tend to agree that it seems a bit high for the size, but it's not out of the question if if was an exceptional stone.  :dunno:

By the way bother asking the ladies.  They never buy diamonds for themselves when they can get some sorry bastard to buy it for them.  ;)

<== is a sorry bastard.

Only if the 6th C is "Continuing to be allowed to sleep in my bed."

Diamonds are for those times when I've done something too stupid for flowers.  (Just kidding...I'm just a sucker and give my wife anything she wants).  Frankly, i don't understand the infatuation with jewelry/shiny objects, but she doesn't understand the motorcycle thing...or the airplane thing...or the...well, you get the idea.

If you like motorcycles, you have at least a basic understanding of the appeal of shiny objects. :)

Post by: Badger on November 06, 2005, 09:53:20 PM
Nah...no vehicle of mine stays shiny for very long.  :)  I only wash things when the grime threatens to do serious damage.  I try to keep the brake dust off my car's rims (but with stock BMW pads that's a losing battle), try to get rid of most egregious bird droppings, and I try to stay ahead of winter salt grime, but that's about it.  I figure there's an even coating of filth that protects the finish underneath.

I'll probably wash and paste-wax the GS before it goes into hibernation.  I was thinking about doing it this weekend along with cleaning the chain, but ran out of motivation.

Some of 'em... but I have rarely seen an unshinier bike than my labmate's Sportster.

I'm the anal one about washing and waxing.  So it's a sign of how fecking busy I've been that the GS has only had a Seattle wash so far. :(

I should be doing that instead of posting, but I'm in a bathrobe in bed enjoying somebody's unsecured wireless connection, and I'm not feeling like getting up.

Do you usually wash n' wax your motorcycle at 9:00pm?

I was talkin' about the chrome!

And don't worry, I feel your pain about not having time to do stuff, especially washing and waxing the bike. I store mine outside and it desperately needs to be cleaned; no time.

I also share your enthusiasm about not getting up out of bed, especially when you're enjoying unsecured wireless. Ahh, the great gifts in life, right?

I usually wash it earlier so I don't feel bad about it being filthy at 9pm...

Not the thing I'd be enjoying if I had the option, but since I don't, wireless is OK.

still dont get it, what on this earth can possibly brain wash someone so completely to put 5K, even 1K for that matter in a Symble of Union?   does one really need a   forsale "SOLD" sign to remain loyal ?  IF a person really needs a ring on thier finger to remind them they have given themselves to someone else for life and not to seek others, then there is something wrong. on same note, i cant fallow someone needing more then a Vow of love, loyalty and monogomy

really what is that ring? an investment? sheeeeeeaaaaahhh right,

Honey, we really could use the work on the roof, lets sell your ring its worth 3K.   (slim chance)

OR how about this, and ive seen this with my own eyes.

Babe, my truck just died, i need a replacement as i cant take yours from you and the kids.  we can sell the ring and get a good down payment on another vehicle.      (i belive the exact quote was as follows)  "you get this ring back when im dead in a box and not before"       he lost his job 3 days later due to lack of transpo, whole family evicted 3 months later.

OVER A RING!

i did buy my wife a ring, its a simple band, costing 40$ second hand.  no gems.  i dont wear one mainly as ive broken 2 working with my hands and would rather retain my fingers. i dont have the tan line, i also dont have a problem telling someone im taken.

Token of marriage, or symble of love is all fine and good, but too many belive there needs to be $$$$$ backing them up to mean anything. or show any conviction of the heart.  .....and its bloody well stupid.
