I can buy one it's a 1989 runs strong needs a regulator and will need a front tire.Never drop looks good. It's the one my ex wife hubby has I thought I was going to get it for 800 well the dip sh'''t pawn shop now it's going to cost me right at 1500 buck to get it out. What do you guys think good deal to much KBB says retail is around 2300,trade in 1400 or so.
it ain't worth 1500 in my eye. especially if it's the ex's hubby.
Thanks Davi. But if it was a non ex.lol

Its a great bike ... I have one and its been great ... there is 1-2 gotcha's though ... I tell you tommorow.
Cool.

I either need a regualtor or a stader it runs about 100 miles then die's.I am going to pick it up Saturday so I know more when I get my hands on it.Also where a good place to find parts.
Like mine, with a Vtwin!

OK 100 miles is too much if its a regulator ... why ... I think R/R's are all or nothing ... they are electronic ... if its busted ... it will not charge the battery and there fore not make it 100 miles ... it will run about 15 miles on a full battery that wasn't getting charge at all ... Stator's are electric and hence you may get 100 miles ... essentially you'll get more if you ran higher rpms and less if you idled it ... but that 100 will slowly drop ... well quite rapidly drop ... and I actually do think its a possibility but I dont thin its the first thing I'd check ...
So what is my #1 ... a battery that is far too small for it. That bike takes a huge ass 20 amp battery ... people (and you may not ask how I know) put in smaller capacity like a 14 or 16 amp in it ... and it will work fine for 2-3 days with 10-20 miles a day ... then kaput ...
My #2 choice ... it has a fuel level guage that will need to be flipped to reserve at ~100 miles ... yours may be busted ... so it simply runs out of gas ... when it does that try flipping the handelar switch to res ...
VTNewb - 1100 virago and maxim 700 ... not even close ... max is so much better ... the public is so wrong on that one ... virago was so popular ... I just cant see why. OK torque ... fine 1 reason ... but in all others ... the max is so miles ahead.
Cool.

Thanks Sirnath
I look at the battery first it has a new stayor put on 2 years ago. i was look not but $117 @ bikebandit for one.I like the look of the bike .I dont think I have went wrong.
That bike has this thing called a diode plug or some sheite like that ... it basically sits under the frame on the left side under the seat. Its a 8 or 9 wire plug into the wiring harness which ends in a short pigtail and there is a rubber square plug on it and that has a cap ... In mine that cap came loose ... and there were metallic wire endings that were sticking out through the rubberised crap whihc made contact with the frame ... and on a 10 mile ride ... my starter ran continously and the oil light lit up too ... I destroyed the starter and chewed up the starter nose and the case bushing it sits in ... I had a parts starter that I swapped parts from and some macnining of a oil light bushing ... and it all went back together ... and the rubber cap is zip tied on that pigtail ... in your case I'd look for that - its between the reserve fuel tank and the battery box, under the seat ... and have that cap zip tied on ... That was it.
Cool.

I should pick it up Saturday I get to work looking everything over good.Might be email you for some help. How does your ride you over 6ft right . I rode my buddy 1100 Vstar Saturday could not stretch out .
I am of the "Big and tall shopping" variety ... but only 1 of the 2 ... ...
I am 5 ft 10 and I believe it fits me just about right ... 6ft+ may be a bit cramped ... under 5ft 6 you may feel its too large ...
Cool.

How's the power/speed compared to the GS500. Not trying to sound like a "nood", just curious. :)

"nood" is when you don't have a bike. Noob is when you do :)
Also, when you're "not wearing clothes."
I dont think it will be as Quick but will be as fast. If that makes since. What I looking at is the ride might be a little better.Dont get me wrong I am keep the GS for now unless someone want it more than I do :) my son loves to ride it he's turns 17 thrusday.
The 1100 will pretty much blow away the GS in rool ons etc ... in short ... if it will run in a gear it will accelerate hard enough to pull your arms out of their sockets ...
Cool.
Srinath.
I'll have to look out for that on the the morning ride soon. 8)
Speaking of I have not seen you recently on the road.
lastly, got any pics.
Will be there in the morning,I seen your a Walmart today.
One more ? I just got off the phone with the person who owned the bike from new my ex hubby got it a few months ago well the said the bike was service regular oil change the whole 9 yards the bad thing I did not no is it has over 50000 miles on it. I have not yet gave any money toward it except to my ex none to the guy that pawned. I guess what I am saying is that why to many miles or how many can you get out of that 1100. She told me it uses no oil runs very strong. She said it's like new all but the charging problem.I just hate to get it and in a few month the motor go out.
There are instances of these going over 100K, in fact there is a couple with several hundred ... having said that ... the damn thing will cost a fortune to rebuild ... BTW its got ball bearing crank and cam shafts ... pretty much never wear out ...
Cool.

hmm, that's interesting. I raced my dads '04 Honda VTX1800R the other day from a stop, 60 roll, 40 roll, etc. I beat him bad up to about 20 or 30 on the race from a stop, then he ripped past me and on the highway... well, his bike is just wicked, that's all there is to that. But he told me that his friend James' 1100 Virago did NOT keep up with him as well as my GS did. :dunno:
Roll on = no shifting. Dead stop to 20-30 definetly involves a shift or 2 and even if it didn't the high redline and the fact that a GS will do 40+ in first makes it a no contest and as such its a drag race, not a roll on. In a 40 - 60 I belive they do that in 4th, and 60-80 in top. The bikes that do the 40-60 well are bikes that have 6 speed close ratio transmissions with a motor that makes mondo torque and moderately high rpm. Examples - 4 cyl cruisers with massive motors. My eli 9/10, the Vmax 1200 etc ... all have 10-11 K red lines, and make mountains of torque and have 6 speed transmissions ... 60-80 roll on's are typically dominated by 5 speed bikes with massive torquey motors and a lower redline - being 5 speed they are geared lower up top and their motors make bulk of their power in the 4-6K range. VTX and virago as well as the other large capacity cruisers. You let people shift ... nothing will keep up with a sport bike ... just rev to the 15K redline and shift ...
