Went on Saturday on the famous "Palms to Pines" ride in So Cal. We took the 243 (http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway243.htm) up out of Banning to Idyllwild/Mountain Center, then the 74 (http://www.pashnit.com/roads/cal/Highway74.htm) down into Palm Desert. I went with a bunch of sportbikers from Sportbikers.net. What started as signups for like 15 people, turned into 44 bikes. The group was pretty young, but squidliness was at a minimum.
I was pretty intimidated at first, as I roll in on my twin, with only like <2000 miles under my belt. But I did fine. I managed to keep up with the front pack (even after I OMG made the mistake OMG of looking at the speedometer OMG). The GS did awesome in the twisties. I'd love to have to do less shifting, but I was amazed at how fast she went. Got smoked on the freeway on the way home, of course.
None of these pics are taken by me, but by the good people on Sportbikers.net. Someday I will get my camera back from the shop.
The one yellow bike mixed in there, yep, my GS.

The unplanned stop. Draining diesel fuel out of the 1 SV along on the trip. D'oh! It was nice not having to put gas in the GS. I did the 180-ish mile RT without switching to reserve. Nice.
The sportbikers also helped a couple pick up their Goldwing that fell over as they were parking on the other side of the building.
ENVY! Looks like fun! All nice and sunny...
All I'm thinking about is installing some hand guards and getting my waterproof gloves! :(
I love that ride, especially the lookout point where you can see all the turns.

It was funny. He was topping off his tank, I guess he didn't notice the green pump. He just pulled over cause his bike was smoking like crazy about a mile down the road. Of course, some other guy was like "I saw you put diesel in the tank." We were all like "wtf? why didn't you say something??" :dunno:
Nice pics!! Love your jacket, jen!!!!!!
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww so purty
Was Khrushchev due there?
Nice pics! Ja, my ex once put diesel in his bike. Had to flush it all out for the bike to run again.
I heard a story about a guy who bought a brand-new GSXR 1000, brought it back the next day PISSED-OFF, cause it was running like absolute CRAP!!!! Turns out the fool had filled it with diesel, DUMB-DONKEY!! I think it cost him close to $500 to get it fixed after that.
Now back to the topic at hand.
Looks like a great time. Wish I could take some rides like that around here in south GA.
By the way, is Riverside, CA near Edwards AFB? My brother is stationed there, and I'm just trying to see if it is a small world after all.
Not really, about 3hrs.
http://maps.google.com/maps?q=edwards+air+force+base,+ca+to+riverside,+ca&hl=en
But its really close to March ARB (As in, March is IN riverside).
edwards is close to willow springs raceway and to the outer edges of our angeles crest rides, paticularly when we go to mile high cafe.
Nice ride, nice bike!
