im ripping my hair out trying to find the CHEAPEST reputable place to buy my early xmas present to myself. the D70s. so if u have one where did u get it and how much did u pay??
You're in for a treat. That's an excellent camera in that price range. Are you looking for the body only version or the kit with the lens?

If you haven't looked into the Canon 20D, you really need to. It's a much better camera in almost every area for the same price.

Here's a side-by-side comparison (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/compare_post.asp?method=sidebyside&cameras=canon_eos20d%2Cnikon_d70s&show=all) of the two. There's just no contest in my opinion. Food for thought I guess. :thumb:
If you're willing to buy used, try http://keh.com or http://www.bhphotovideo.com/. Both places have like-new cameras complete with the original boxes, manuals, etc. Or, you can go down in price with fewer OE frills, maybe a scratch or two, but still get a camera in very good operating condition. They also accept trade-ins if you already have a camera or lens you don't want anymore.[/url]
like rogue said, price difference between d70 and 20d is probably only ~$150 (canon has $100 mail in rebate on 20d). and 20d is a much better camera than d70. so consider canon 20d unless you absolutely want to go with nikon.
also, the new olympus e500 is a very capable camera. it's probably better than d70. it has ultrasonic wave filter. it cleans the sensor with ultrasonic wave. you'll never have a dust on sensor problem which is very common on a slr. best of all you can get a 2 lens kit (which are very good lenses) for ~$800.
im going with nikon for 2 reasons. first, i've always had nikon and prob always will. canon's are no doubt good cameras but i have had serious bad luck with them (2 underwater cameras shot after 3-4 uses). canon wouldnt replace the second because they thought i was doing something on purpose. secondly, my father will be getting a d50 or d70 in the near future and we will be able to borrow each others lenses. i also have several lenses with the F-mount (all nikkor) that i will be able to use on the d50 or the d70.
im still unsure what package im going with. i've seen many different packages that apeal to me. including the kit lens. i like macro shooting so i want a macro lens somewhere down the line yet i'd like a zoom lens as well. i just hate making decisions.
thanks for the imput guys. keep em coming!
nikon d200 is calling your name :D or more price drop for d70s.. and you heard of sony sensor problem, right? I don't notice anything wrong with my d70 (from 1st batch) though.
how is the pricing of ritzcamera.com ?
i saw the d70 at ritz for a common 1000+ price. im looking to spend under 1k. i know they are out there i just want to be sure i dont buy from a shitty company that ends up screwing me over.
sony sensor prob.. dust? i've heard taht come up. shaZam! happens tho and you can apparently clean it. if thats the problem u are talking about..

d200 won't be available till end of december...but it'll be around $1900 for body only, which is excellent for the camera.
sony had a recall on the defected ccd sensors...
