Title: Need Vehicle Advice....
Post by: Daniely on November 08, 2005, 11:37:36 PM
Well I have a couple options...

As of right now, im driving my 01 CBR f4i. I have a 68 chevy with no motor as of yet. Now my quandry...

I can either keep my bike, save up 4 or 5 g's and buy a truck of somesort (I already have 2500, so im half way there).

I can use the two i have already, sell my bike for 4500 and buy a really nice bike that is cosmetically, and mechanically beautiful, and newer than 01.

Or third, I can take the money I have and build an engine for the truck I already own.

What would you guys do?

build engine for the truck that you already have, unless you are tired of it?

What "really nice bike that is cosmetically, and mechanically beautiful, and newer than 01" did you have in mind?

Keep riding the known quantity nice bike you have and save the money?

What do you need a vehicle for?  From the 'new bike' option, it sounds like you can get by fine with just a bike, and that's the least expensive option.

lol that 68 will NEVER get sold, I was planning on working on it while going to school, but the spare funds arent there :(. I was looking at a second bike, since track days are to much fun, and I dont want to risk my only mode of transportation (my current CBR).

Then get a cheap beat-up GS for the track, not a newer and nicer bike.

Or take the farings off of the CBR, track it, and get a nice more-efficient bike for the street.

you'll need a truck to get the track bike to the track...

save the 68 for when you're in the workforce and pulling down some coin. you'll regret selling it.

save up for a beater truck and a beater track bike. I suggest a beater sv650, older R6, or a screaming deal on whatever SS 600 you can get salvage (friend just came across a 05 zx6r for $1800 missing wheels and bodywork).

A truck for the track isnt a problem, I can make arrangements anytime to use my parents truck (the one i sold them to buy my bike) no biggie. I still want a beater bike though, maybe a salvaged 750 or like a 929.

Just recently I had the chance to get a salvaged 919 that was already fixed for about 3,000.  4000 miles, new paint, new exhaust, new tires, and was already inspected and ready to go.  I took it around the block a couple times, I really liked it but I did not like the looks :dunno:

I'm fairing spoiled :)

dan, if thats the case, drop a crate motor in the 68 and you'll have a stylin' ride.

Your CBR looks pretty good to me.  A lot nicer than my '89 GS.

I say put a motor in the 68.

Keep present bike, and save your pennies. When you have enough, you can decide whether to throw new motor into old truck or get used Taco? ;)

I would keep the current bike. It is already paid for and you've got it just how you like it, right? And a newer bike will have higher insurance, yes?

Buy an affordable (read:cheap) track-only bike. Use your parents truck to transport the track bike on track days.

Take left over cash from the track only bike and save it; add to it when money allows and then when you have enough for an engine rebuild on your '68, do it.  :thumb:
