Doesn't this make you mad?

Some people use metal to decorate or make their leathers more personalized. But mainly, maybe we cover ourselves in leather for protection?? :dunno: Just a guess. I'm probably wrong here.
well, I'm breaking my "no posting" streak, to which I shall return after this, but I wrote them a reply to that article, and I thought everyone should see it.
"Not only is that one of the most idiotic, biased, stereotypical articles I have ever read, but I found it to contain typos as well. Here's an example:
"It has been said that 'loud pipes save lives' - that riders are more likely to notice the attention of motorists when they are nearby on the road." Anyone with basic proof reading skills and a grasp of the English language would have caught "notice" being used for "attract". The section of your article that infuriates me most, however, is this: "Most of them are belligerent... In communities where the police pull over bikers, often they find alcohol, drugs and sometimes weapons. In a few cases, bikers have outstanding warrants for their arrest." Most of them are belligerent? I think that's a little stereotypical.. also, as for "often" finding alcohol, drugs, and weapons, I'd like you to show me some statistics to support that. Show me ONE REAL STUDY that proves motorcyclists have a higher incidence of posessing controlled/illicit substances than other motorists. The last sentence of that quote is rediculous as well. In a few cases, some pedestrians have a warrant out for their arrest, so should we boycott walking? Maybe if you had presented this article in a less biased manner, you would have gotten through to some of the "belligerent" motorcyclists you are so against. However, I feel that this article will do nothing but infuriate them, and make them strive to be even louder, just to upset ignorant, close minded people like you. Have a great day.."
OH THAT MADE ME MAD :x :x :x
so i sent a reply as you may see i was quite angry :x
My responce to them was
Thought you would like to know of a very special invention to help assist you in your cause its called earplugs try using them and stop trying to destroy everyone elses fun its people like you that have made the world the uptight no fun place it has become by making legislation on certain things just because you don't like them. I like noise but you dont see me trying to start some web based movement to have you banned so pull your head in and just deal with it and atleast protest something worth protesting, there is alot of suffering in the world and your worried about the sound of cars and bikes. PLEASE wake up to yourself.
From a Belligerent
Motorcyclist to arrogant wowser
I know the above is no way to make friends but what can i say but :nana:
to them :thumb:
They also talk about some motorcyclists doing stunts on public roads. Yes I do think those motorcyclists should be off the road, but I also think that people who drive and eat, put on make-up, but mostly READ WHILE DRIVING, should be off the road as well. It is highly dangerous to read while driving since reading requires you to be looking at something other than the road. But they won't ever look into that. As for the noise, why do they put it all towards the motorcyles? How many MORE cars are just as loud? I'm not saying I'm against loud cars, because my car would fall right into that group even being in the legal limits.
EDIT: The more things I see on their website the more mad I get.
"If you see a Meineke or Midas shop opening up in your community, get together with your neighbors and stage an organized protest. Make picket signs and send a media alert to all the newspaper and television news outlets so they can cover the event. Give them a Bronx cheer they won't soon forget. "
Where the f**k do you get a new muffler put on your car then??!
God f%$king damn that pissed me off. I'd write them a letter, but I'm so angry I doubt I could form a coherent sentence that didn't end with the word f%$k thirty times.
http://www.noiseoff.org/enginebrakes.shtml
They also dislike engine braking. WTF?! Excuse me for driving a manual transmission and NOT killing my brakes and clutch. I bet these people are upper middle class to upper class white people who talk on their cell phones while driving alone in their Excursions. f%$k f%$k f%$k f%$k f%$k f%$k f%$k
:( it wouldn't accept my reply
I agree with the first two paragraphs. The rest is offensive.
QuoteMotorcycles are an enjoyable and purposeful machine when operated properly. Most new motorcycles off the showroom floor are generally quiet because they are built to federally mandated noise control standards. What makes them especially noisy is when bikers remove or modify the muffler tailpipe to make them louder. This type of modification is illegal in most states, yet companies continue to sell and install custom pipes.
Most riders do not modify their motorcycles to make more noise. In London, motorcycles are used much more for commuting and recreational use than in most American cities. But their motorcycles are not much louder than a typical automobile and it does not cause urban blight. In America, riders often deal with road use restrictions because of the widespread perception that all motorcycles are noisy.
dirty damn. that makes me angry. loud pipes are safe pipes. skiing behind your bike and doing handstands on public roads - thats where the problem is. it should read something like: "stunting on public roads should be stopped" thats it.
ah F it.
Im gonna go do some 90mph lanesplit wheelies through rush hour traffic.
son of a b (sorry to use harsh letters)
I can understand their point. Harleys going down the street at 2am *is* annoying. However, it isn't the end of the world like they play it out to be. Learn to ignore it.
Where I draw the line is pulling in stuff that has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH NOISE.
"Inexperienced motorcyclists cause accidents on public roads putting you and your family at risk."
"Most of them are belligerent."
"In communities where the police pull over bikers, often they find alcohol, drugs and sometimes weapons. In a few cases, bikers have outstanding warrants for their arrest."
And this is any different from the general population how?
Just a bunch of city slicker assholes who have nothing productive to do with their time. Instead, they'd rather rule everyone else's life. Just your typical suburban lowlife.
That site must sure be getting a lot of hits. Seems to be offline at the moment.
Maybe some "belligerent" motorcyclist did an "omg hax0r0ed t3hr b0x0r0z!!!! omgomg!!!!1!!1!!one!1" by utilizing their "133t sk33lz" or something.
Heh I sent this too them
QuoteWondering if you have permission to use these various companies logos and media on your web site? I was thinking about bringing it to their attention, I'm sure they would approve...not. I was also thinking about buying some aftermarket pipes for my motorcycle...no, it is not a Harley, yes it will still be loud! God this site has so many stereotypes. Hypocrytes as well. What about all your SUV's and cars your driving around in spewing all that pollution...it is harmful to my health. Maybe you should get a motorcycle and contribute to a cleaner atmosphere...wait then you would be a hardened thug (oh please!). You probibally complain when the crickets chirp. Oh well, I will happily go on with mowing my lawn with my lawn tractor, using my gas leaf blower and trimmer, and taking relaxing rides on my motorcycle while you all live in anger. Have a wonderful life!
I didn't find the article particularly offensive.
If the writer really has that much problem with noise pollution, then the very simple solution is to move to a less populated or more rural area.
If they think that motorcycles are loud, then let them try living close to a highway and listening to semi trucks barrel down the road at all hours of the day and night.... or an airport, or train tracks, etc...
Motorcycles should probaby be farther down on the list of concerns.
As for bikers being aggressive... that varies from person to person. I do think that putting yourself in a more defensive mode helps to keep you out of trouble on the road. Relaxing too much in traffic can get you hurt!

But...it's a "health and safety issue"...according to them, there's a "huge deaf population looming on the horizon"
These people are crazy...outlaw leaf blowers? Lawnmowers? Car alarms? Dogs? (I can't believe they're actually in favor of debarking dogs...asshats)
There are plenty of options for soundproofing one's home...perhaps they should look into that.
Argh. :x
or they can all become mennonites, then they have the simple taske of de clucking the chickens, un mooing cows and un crowing roosters. they can drive thier carriages around with horses wearing booties and no polution or noise save the comunity farm tractor
Well, I've been riding motorcycles for a long time. I love them as much as anyone, and more than most. I get very angry at anyone who makes excessive noise while passing my house in the wee hours of the morning. People do this with motorcyeles with straight pipes, as well as with loud stereos and loud pipes on cars. It's all the same.
I find parts of that article very offensive. It contains a number of factual errors, of course, and a great deal of prejudice.
I also think that articles like this are inevitable as long as there are bikers out there who act the way the article describes, which there are.
While the article didn't communicate its central idea very well, I think what it was trying to get at is basically true. The motorcycle itself is not a symbol of anything - it's a very fuel efficient and enjoyable means of transportation and recreation. Some in the United States have caused it to become a symbol of irresponsible, inconsiderate, dangerous, and stupid behavior. And it isn't just the irresponsible riders who have done this. There are a lot of folks in advertising, the media, and in the motorcycle manufacturing and distributiion businesses who profit from the "bad boy" image associated with motorcycles. Let's face it folks; these people are not doing us any favors!
We can write nasty notes to the people who wrote the article, but if we really want to see this kind of thing stop, the best way to do it is to project a better image of ourselves and who we are.

Hell Yeah!!!!! :nana:
Actually I'm a father of two girls, an engineer and I haven't even had a parking ticket in 5 years.
"If you see a motorcycle shop opening up in your community, get together with your neighbors and stage an organized protest. Make picket signs and send a media alert to all the newspaper and television news outlets so they can cover the event. "
I'm sure the new bike shop would love the media coverage! Go ahead! :thumb:
What a total bunch of crap. I read through that whole page and the writer complains about everything about bikes, not just noise. I think he/she should take one for a ride. I think the writer has confused bike gangs with bikers(people who ride bikes).

I'm an SICK and TIRED of loud pipes on Harley's.
Yes Harley's - it's nothing more than "LOOK AT ME!"
It wasn't enough to have a Harley - because everybody now has one and it's the new fad (WAS the new fad.)
So then they have to dress up like a bunch of wannabes. Well, they figured out that they all look alike so now it's loud pipes.
I was at Myrtle Beach Bike Week last year and every stupid F*** who left a parking lot or drove away from a red light has to tear out and expose everyone to his open pipe.
Wow dumb sh*t....that's impressive, glad you blew my eardrums out....thanks...never in my entire life have I heard a staight pipe. You have a true command of the throttle.
If aftermarket pipes are ever banned, it's because of these jerks.
This rant does not include Ducati's.
Thanks for letting me vent.

A few days ago I saw a bumper sticker on one of the cars in the company garage. It read: "There are two types of bikers. Those who ride Harleys and those who wish they did.". Now, as this is obviously incorrect (I, for one, do not fall into any of those categories), I decided to help the car owner to a correct sticker. I designed and printed one and taped it over the old one. Maybe I should have left my business card in case he wants to thank me? All the best, -Mnz

I'm not really against harley's, I wouldn't mind having one, but I probably wouldn't buy one till I'm older and going through my mid life crisis.
Quote from: porsche4786I'm not really against harley's, I wouldn't mind having one, but I probably wouldn't buy one till I'm older and going through my mid life crisis.
I would not mind having one just to cruise around on but I would never buy one new.
If I would get one it would be a 1200 Sportster or a 883 converted to a 1200. I don't really care for any of the others because of the price. If price was not a worry then a Night Train or Duece would be my more expensive choices.
At higher RPM's my GS is almost as loud as my buddies 1200 custom with the SE pipes on it :dunno:
Sure there are some inacurracies in the article, but these articles get written because there is some amount of truth to them.
I believe there should be noise laws for vehicles. The modifications people make to bikes (and cars) to make them excessively loud do make them come across as look-at-me @ssholes. Have you ever tried to ride behind one of those frickin' Harleys with the wicked pipes? It's unbearable.
And hey, there are some bikers who hang around in groups and try to intimidate others. We've all seen them.
And there's yahoos who do wheelies at 75 mph on the freeway. And some of them end up as road pizza.
There'll always be those who intentionally or inadvertently demean something good, and the rest of us suffer.
The writer is a bit ignorant of motorcycles. But is he entirely wrong?
There are noise laws, around here, it's like 92 db? Something around there. My car is loud, and my neighbors always give me that look like I'm speeding, but it is below the legal limit.

I get your point but I think it's wrong because the writer is fostering ignorance and fear/hate towards bikers. (Maybe hate is too strong but couldn't think of a word slightly less than hate.) The writer dragged in all the typical stereotypes about bikers that doesn't hold true for the majority. As if no-one in all of London has a loud pipe on his bike. I'm sure they're all highly civilized tea-toddlers and all you in the US are outlaw hoodlums, raping and pillaging.
I don't particularily like loud pipes either, especially in my neighbourhood and after I've put the kids to bed. Around here, all the teenagers want to drive honda civics with stove pipe exhausts. Most of them sound like crap. I can appreciate the sound of a well tuned machine with a custom exhaust though if not stupidly loud. I have a Yosh pipe on my Katana and it's a little louder than I would actually like. It does get attention but I try to keep it to a reasonable level when going through a subdivision.
Bikers are just like any group of people you can think of lumping together. Doctors, lawyers, realestate agents (ugh), car salesmen, jews, hispanics, white guys etc. ... some are idiots and some aren't.

Quote from: porsche4786There are noise laws, around here, it's like 92 db?
I think EPA mandates 85db measured at such&such a speed from such&such a distance. Bear in mind, the decibel scale is exponential in which 10db represents an increase equal to 10X the intensity. 20db represents an increase of 100X the intensity. :o The typical aftermarket pipe ranges from 102-to-108db. Do the math and
noiseoff.org has a point (that article, btw, wasn't meant to be fair & balanced, it was an advocacy piece). Currently, enforcement is lax, but all EPA has to do is crack down with some stiff fines and they can change the sonic landscape. I got hit with $300 worth of traffic violations last month, none of them speeding, and my behavior behind the wheel has vastly improved.
