Title: GSXR Mufflers
Post by: Blazinjr on November 15, 2005, 07:38:42 AM
I wonder how hard it would be to get a 2005-06 GSXR 1000 muffler to work on a GS?

They look sweet, titanium, and did I say look sweet?

Or a muffler off of a new 06 GSXR 600?

I just love the new look of the mufflers.

What do you guys think?

Without looking at them, I am sure there is no way to come up with a flange to attach them.  Therefore they would have to be welded.  Which begs the question: can you weld ti to our mid-pipe/header?

If you have access to a welder and can bribe someone who can use it, anything can be added.

yes you can weld Ti to mild steel.  it'll last about a week before it falls off though as the weld will be so brittle from hydrogen infusion in the weld. you could try to do it in a chamber but your looking at $1000+ to build one with no garentees that it will be air tight.   this is why they came out with the slip-on systems.

JULES

Well, if you like hamburgers give

You know what they call a Quarter

Pounder with Cheese in France?

BRETT

No.

JULES

Tell 'em, Vincent.

VINCENT

Royale with Cheese.

JULES

Royale with Cheese, you know why

they call it that?

BRETT

Because of the metric system?

JULES

Check out the big brain on Brett.

You'a smart motherfucker, that's

right. The metric system.

I know Titanium is hard to weld.  I looked at a picture of a gsxr 1000 pipe and it looks to be a clamp on style so it might just need another mid pipe fabricated and put into position.
