Growing up in NY I remember not being able to see my feet in less then a foot of water, and it's the same w/ the lakes/rivers out here in Mo due to all the boating.

Those look like Brookies. I'm pretty sure Browns have white outlined dark spots.
Never caught a brook. Caught brown (first fish ever caught by me with a dry fly) and I've caught rainbow.
