Title: Disturbing Piece on Two Wheel Tuesday...
Post by: ashman on November 16, 2005, 12:26:33 AM
Two Wheel Tuesday on Speed ran a story, which may of been a re-air, on motorcycle theft getting the low down from a convicted bike thief. Know first hand m/c's are not that hard to steal consitering it only takes a couple guys and a pick up. But man, this guy was talkin about how they get shopping lists from customers (100 bux per 100CC) and they use look outs on two way it all seems like a pretty slick opperation. The most desired bikes were the Japanese 600cc and up sport bikes. Alarms, wheel locks, cables, ect ect. If they want it they'll get it. I have a covered carport but that is not much help w/ four bikes under it right now I'm concerned esp. since the new also aired a story bout teen in my area had his m/c stolen. I was thinking maybe some cheap bike covers so that way there is no telling whats under them. Or maybe a long cable lock, or even a survalance cam? Best security feature has got to be my dog. He is always on the prowl for bad guys.

Self-activating and self-contained, the dog security system takes whatever action is necessary to rid your property of bandits. Requires a yearly maintenance fee consisting of 2-4 cans of Alpo a day plus water per dog security unit.

The black units such as german shepard / lab mix picked off the street are generally well-tempered and very loyal as long as the food keeps coming. Female units are cleaner, may not require any housetraining, and are generally even more loyal. Things to look for include:

Leader of the local pack of strays.
Mean look.
Calculating mind.
Muscular build.
Large teeth.

Ensure that the dog unit(s) are well-loved and cared for. This includes a warm dry place to sleep and room to run. This increases the will of the unit to destroy the enemy on sight.

2" elevator hoisting cable properly woven and spliced.  Then the splices covered in splice basket.  I'd like to see them get through that in under an hour without a portatorch.  In fact, I need to head down to the crane repair joint and pick up some whipline to make a little cable for securing at the store.

Oh...  and a pump gun.  Everyone needs a pump gun.    :thumb:

An ounce of speed, 12guage shotty & a .357 revolver  :guns:  Then just sit back and wait for them to try.

After my experience last winter, the next place I live in that isn't an apartment complex is going to have a well-loved and possessive dog.  My sister has a huge Golden that knows to bark and look mean only if someone actually approaches the house (I can't stand it when dogs sit there and bark at any motion they see).

Still, I really doubt GSs have the same appeal as I-4 600s.  Not to say they're immune to theft (skooz can tell), but they're a lot less likely to be stolen.

Chow Chows are great guard dogs.  They're a little easier to train to be guard dogs, 'cause they're bread for it...  If you have the time to properly socialize them when they're young, they can be friendly dogs too.

You have to be really careful when picking them out of the litter though.  Chow Chows range from HOLYSHIT-THIS-DOG-IS-TOO-STUPID-TO-LIVE to Pretty damn smart.
Title: Virago Vs rottweiler ...
Post by: The Buddha on November 16, 2005, 02:06:57 PM
Oh yea I once got chased by a Rottweiler ... It came out of a house and waited for me when I went down the street to the cul de sac. There I waited while looking at some crap stuff. Then as I started to move ~30 yards ahead of me it was preparing an assault ... I waited till I got ~ 10 yards from it and it had started to get closer to my line of travel ... and I made a sharp break towards it ... at which point it had to slow down else it was gonna over shoot ... smart judge of speed that dog ... and all it didn't account for was the ability of 1100 lbs of Japaneese iron to change speed and direction on hot, dry, clean tarmac ... and I nailed it heading clearly for its rib cage ... and to avoid the collission it basically tried to run away ... and darn it if the virago didn't keep up and actually close in ... and I saw it plain look of terror as I was close enough for it to see the look on my face and smell the gasoline burning ... I kept up with it letting it run well out of its safety zone ... a good 4-500 yards ... and It saw its break ... turn hard left and into the woods ... and it did that ... else I was comming up on a stop sign whihc I would have run, turned hard right on and had it run down a thoruough fare ... and then maybe chased it down the next street into a state highway ... BTW what is the speed limit on a dog ... I was going to guess ~20 clicks ... BTW I love dogs, just dog owners that think their particular brand of mutt craps gold get on my nerves. I would buy a Husky if wifey would let me and strictly train it and fence it in so it has space and running room to be free and yet not get scraed of being plowed down ... BTW the thumb tack trick works even better on a dog ...
Cool.
Srinath.

I park in a motorcycle lot at work.  There my theory is to park next to the Ducati.  Which will get stolen first, pretty Ducati or beat up GS.
I'm hoping to get into an apartment with an enclosed garage soon.  Always scares me that the bike will be lifted.  I bought a rain cover and it lasted a total of 1 night in Berkeley.  Next time I buy a locking one.
Chows frighten me.  I have worked in vet clinics and they were the dog we were most scared of, much more than Rotties, pit bulls and dobbies.  Much less predictable.  We had one girl hospitalized when one latched on to her calf as it calmly followed her down a hallway, completely unprovoked...  Any dog with a black tongue frightens me...
