I just got my bike serviced and at stealership at the 600 mile mark and I now have a problem finding neutral when stopped at the stoplight or stop sign. When I try to downshift from 2nd to N, it skips and goes to 1st. Same thing happens when I try to go from 1st to N, I hit second. I can also shift all the up to 6th and back down while parked, but just not N. Also, this happens when the bike has had a chance to warm up after 15 minutes or so. I can shift to neutral just fine when the bike is cold. Anyone know what's going on?
No, but if you absolutely must have it in neutral, kill the engine really quick and bump it up to neutral, then hit the starter button. It should go in just fine with the engine off. As for a long term fix? :dunno:
it's something you have to get used to. for me, some times it's impossible to find neutral when the engine is not running. but i learned how to roll the bike to find the neutral. it's just a matter of knowing your bike well enough.
I have a brand new 2005 F with only 170miles so far. I also sometimes have a hard time finding neutral sometimes. Usually, however, if I play with it for a few seconds, or even roll the bike a few feet, I eventually get neutral and that happy little green light comes on. 8)
What bothers me was that I was working fine before the service. I am going to take it back there.
If you have only just had the 600 service then the bike is not that familiarm aybe you have had other bikes but it's nothing to worry about, lots of people have a bit of bother witn finding neutral, it is just something you will get used to.
On another matter you mention finding it at a stoplight, DON'T! You should be in first, clutch pulled with your left foot on the deck, right foot on the rear brake and right hand covering the front brake. From such a stance you can react best to just about any situation including someone coming up too fast in your mirror. You realy only want neutral parking - getting off - switching off etc,.

It should be added that if the oil level is too high, it will make shifting or finding neutral difficult, also.
