Almost got blasted by some moron in a jeep. First some other jackass stops on the off ramp on the frontage road here in Albuquerque. At the same time the afore mentioned jerkoff in the jeep pulls out from a parking lot, cutting me off. Enter into the picture, the schmuck behind me who chooses not to stop. A lovely oreo cookie in the making, with me as the mushy filling. Fortunately, I saw her coming and took my right hand off the handlebars when it was evident she wasnt going to stop and clipped my right shoulder with her mirror. Maybe that cell phone in her ear had something to do with it. I didn't dump the bike, but I'm still hurting. Apparently no-one looks at me, which I think means the incident didn't happen. Time to start carrying my handgun again.
I'm still trying to figure out ow you miss a 240# guy with a bright yellow ballistic jacket on.
And the number one excuse cited by cagers?
"Oh I didnt see him. Plus I was paying attention to my cell phone"
Hope everyone else has a good holidays. :x :x :x
should have chased her down and taken that mirror off her jeep for a souvenir... stupid effing people... glad you're ok though, it could have been worse..
Horn. Middle finger. Use liberally. If I see someone going past the Stop sign line, or even just looking like they might, or poking a nose into the street, or even looking like they might, I give a short blast of the horn. Prevention beats the living daylights out of cure. Middle finger to anyone who does something significantly stupid is for my own mental health. It gets a lot of exercise.
Every time a car tries to cut into/share my lane or any other stupid thing, I don't even bother with the horn. I find it startles them much more if you pull in the clutch and rev the motor to 10k+ . The noise the thing makes that those rpms is much louder and more startling than the wimpy horn. It also makes you sound meaner, more serious. I find people have become accustomed to horns and no longer take notice of them.
If you have a stock GS - or even a Wileyco - the horn is a lot more penetrating. :P The GSX-R - yowsa, that was an exhaust note to make people sit up and take notice.
But there are so many straight-pipe Harleys around that people have become accustomed to exhausts and no longer take notice of them. :P
I dissagree. well not that the gixxer won't shatter ear drums, but that the gs won't be noticed. right now I've got a stock gs and its plenty loud at high rpms. more than enough to make cagers jump. I've used it many a time in my 3 mounths on the gs. city driving is a b****
I'm with BSD on this one. If someone does something stupid and threatening to me I'll grab the clutch and gun the throttle. The GS is loud at high RPMs without question. I can only imagine what that'd be like with a Yosh pipe!
Welcome to GStwin, nmred!
While the way people drive poorly is norm, it is not aceptable. Don't let it get you down. I hope you feel better, happy holidays to you, too.
hey scratch I noticed your little tittle under your name 'Sofa King We Todd Did' you get that from the Danger Doom CD? that CD is awsome!!! I can't stop lisening to it!!
Scratch's title is courtesy of our benevolent site administrator. :o
He's very kind with his custom titles.
I did not know where it as from, as I "earned" it, but thanks, now I know.
Yeah I will try and remember all those suggestions. Unfortunately all my noodle could come up with is (and I quote) " Holy SH*T, I'm gonna die!!!"
:)
Like I said earlier next time I'm gonna try this to get their attention. :guns:
the tires are the things on your bike that make contact with the roard.

I know you are just pissed off and might even have a reason to be but to carry a hand gun to deal with traffic issues is just asking for more trouble than it is worth.
Just a point, I am not a anti gun nut just venting because you posted the word "gun" but I am a gun owner and have no problems with you owning a gun as long as you are not stupid with it as in wanting to carry it for the purpose of road rage.
Think about it, someone cuts you off or even hits you with their car/truck and you are pissed and you pull your gun out. Just by pointing or even having the gun in your hand you are now a threat with a deadly weapon which might end up getting you shot and where does that put you? Maybe dead! Mow are you going to shot and kill someone because they cut you off and made you wreck your bike? Remember you are still alive but hurt and have a damaged bike. If so are you willing to spend the rest of your life in jail for murder? How about a few years maybe just months for pulling the gun out and pointing it at the person who cut you off?
To carry a gun to solve a road rage issue is a no win unless you want to die or have a desire to mess up the rest of your life due to a stupid gun charge that could keep you from a better job or maybe could cause you to loose you current job or if you are a student you could have to miss class due to being locked up and end up failing classes.
If it a no win.
Leave the gun at home.
The law is funny in that someone in a 5000lbs SUV can almost kill you because they are on a cell phone talking and cut you off and nothing will happen to the SUV driver unless there is contact but the second you point a gun at someone you end up going to jail.
If you are not willing to pull the trigger and deal with the rest of your life then do not pull the gun out!
Well thanks for the handgun ettiquette, but it was more of just a rant. I have been carying for about 15 of my 38 years. In fact, I was carrying at the time of said incident. I appreciate the sentiment but if I really was inclined to murder someone for their drivng non-skills, I would have just done it. Besides with all te people I would have to kill, the roads would be ALOT emptier, thereby causing a natural ebb in my cleansing cause. LOL.
Now returning my soapbox to its natural place in the closet.

Democrats...
Haha, just kidding Democrats, but that post did make me go: :dunno:
I had the engine at high RPMs today and I honked the horn because some cage pulled out in front of me. I couldn't even hear the damn horn. I was like, WTF, my horn is useless.
I had my first real pucker moment yesterday on my way home and wanted to commiserate as it appears this is the thread for stupid-cager angst. So I'll be brief:
I'm driving home during the time when the local HS lets out all the little rugrats and of course all the obligatory mom's in their SUVs out on the road jamming up the neighborhood. I was keeping my distance driving down a two lane side street that is long, straight and level with some traffic in each direction. The car in front of me passes by one of these SUV mom's inching out of a side street on the right to make a left hand turn. I see it all unfolding so i put myself in the left wheel track to make myself more visible and ease off the throttle. I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt..."no, she's just inching out to get a better view...of course she sees me, she's not that blind/stupid/other-condescending-adjectives."
As soon as the car a good ways in front of me passes by her, she inches more and then obviously intends to make her turn. Before she's even committed I lay on my horn to give her the heads up and yet she continues. I downshift and start hard braking while still tooting the horn and the frickin lady who's finally seen/heard me stops herself (now completely blocking my lane). I skid the front tire I'm braking so hard, and make the command decision that stopping completely wont work as she has already taken that option away. I swerve around her back bumper in true MSF trained style and spend the remaining block and a half in my trip trying to stop my life from continuing to flash in front of my eyes.
I got two points out of this oh-so-brief yet frightening encounter. The first was that the MSF course and continuing to actively SEE while riding are invaluable tools in ongoing risk-mitigation. The second is that stupid stupid people can be trusted to do stupid stupid things. Its funny because I saw the whole event playing out before it ever did (in a big "what if" type game that I play while riding) and yet still had so little ability to prevent disaster I can't imagine what kind of splat I would have made if I hadn't been paying very close attention on what I consider to be a quiet safe local street. Anger was my first reaction...stupidity really frustrates me, but I've done plenty o' stupid things myself, so its a lesson in patience too i guess. No one can be trusted on the road so I guess just plan for the worst.
if/when I marry, the moment my partner for life ask for an SUV to take the kids to school, i'm gonna slap her back and forth until my hand hurts... then I'm gonna ask her "what was that honey?" :guns:

Another thing to take away from this is that the first (and generally only) cager response to a surprise sutuation is to slam on the brakes--usually at the worst time (when they are directly in the path of the most people). Always be prepared to deal with the fact that they might stop dead right in front of you.
Glad to hear you made it through unscathed. :thumb:
Out of curiosity...was the driver talking on their cell at the time? Anyone placing bets?

That's not a bet I'd be dumb enough to take...
Whenever I see someone talking on their phone, I remember the guy with "Shut up and drive" printed on the back of his lid.
Be careful dude before someone comments (not venting) about you wanting to slap someone around. LOL.
