Peanuts of any kind including peanut butter is not allowed at my sons preschool because one child has this allergic reaction. Its serious business.

I worked with a lady who had a peanut alergy. I don't pretend to understand the scale of severity that is used, but she ranked off the charts on it. If she even saw a peanut she would run out of the room like it was filling up with mustard gas. That would be a scary condition to live with.
related to allergies. We've had to replace all the latex gloves in our labs in the school of nursing because we've had two instances of reactions in the past 5 months or so. My big question is how these people are going to function in a clinical setting. There's no getting away from latex in the hospital.

One of my roomies has a peanut allergy.. we didn't know it.. (he's kind of the annoying one)... we were watching a movie, munching on some peanut butter crackers.. he's like "hey, can I have one?"... he thought they were cheese... it was dark, so we flicked him off, but threw him one... he bit into it, chewed for about a second, and said "wait, does this have peanuts in it?"... we gave him a look like he was a re re and said "Yeah.. duh... it's PEANUT BUTTER CRACKERS!"... he started spitting it out and chugging water... we start laughing "oh, you're allergic to peanuts, huh? How bad is it?" after he stops freaking out and rinsing his mouth out, he goes "Oh.. my airways close up and I die"... it's not funny.. but we all laughed so hard anyway... we kinda don't like him... I asked him if he had an epi pen we should know about, so if anything happened, we knew where to find it to get him (I also told him that I was gonna stab him in the heart, even though it's supposed to go into your leg)... he was like "Nah.. epi pen won't do any good.. if i actually swallow one, I'll be dead before the ambulance gets here"... his lips were all swollen and stuff.. now when he pisses us off, we take the jar of peanut butter and put it on his desk, or on his pillow, or under his sheets... I wrapped it in paper and wrote "Silver Bullet" on it... keeps him in line... :lol:
I have a friend that has to be extremely careful of any nuts. At my wedding I made a special request to the caterer that there were to be not nuts in or around our food. Everything was fine.
As for hospitals....No need to worry, they have latex and non-latex gloves there. BTW congrats on being in nursing school. I graduate from San Jose State University next month with my BS in Nursing.
It is sure sad with the young girl and the kiss. It shows how serious this allergy is.
i'm actually not in Nursing school I teach there. I'm just saying as careful as people try to be, you're not going to get away from latex. One of the people who had a reaction was a NA student. How are you gonna work in the OR if yoiu can't even been in the same room as latex.
