Title: What is the bulb number for the indicator lights?
Post by: ddcsteven on November 29, 2005, 06:05:55 PM
I tried searching and all the bulb numbers were wrong.  I have a 05 gs500f and my high beam indicator light went out.  I know that all the bulbs are the same size and all the other threads were saying the bulb size is 158 or 161 which is wrong.  Anyone know the correct bulb number for them?

I just went to the auto store and i took in the bulb from the indicator light and it is way smaller than the 194's.  If i get the 194's will it still fit even though the bulb that was is it is small?  I need some help!

so put some 194's through the washing machine on the hot cycle so they shrink.

I just tried that and they broke on the spin cycle :)

Anyone know the real sizes of the bulbs for the 4 indicator lights (oil, neutral, turn signal, high beams)

Speedo, tac, neutral, turn, and oil lights are all 12v 3.4w bulbs and the high beam is 1.7w according to my 97 owners manual.

I've used the #194 for all of these in the 97 and a couple of the speedo and tach bulbs in the 02 with no problems.  These are available everywhere and I've never found the OEM #158 anywhere.

#194 is rated 14v .27a 3.78w
#158 is rated 14v .24a 3.39w

according to Don's Bulbs.

Haynes says they're both 3.4w, and the bulbs look the same in the pics...  But no part number...

Bike Bandit (http://houseofmotorcycles.bikebandit.com/partsbandit/oem_schematic_view~schem_dept_id~720940~section_dept_id~1~section_dept_name~OEM+%28Stock%29+Parts~dept_type_id~2~model_dept_year~2001~model_dept_mfr~Suzuki~model_dept_id~703275~model_dept_name~GS500K1.asp) lists two different bulbs... "BULB 12V 1.7W" and "BULB SPEEDOMETER"

One of 'em is wrong...   :dunno:  Either that or they changed the bulbs they used...

Oh yeah... Look at that...  Haynes does say the High Beam is 1.7w.  ..  I guess I should have kept reading.

When you say it wouldn't fit, what part wouldn't fit? It sounds like the rubber connector/plug is smaller now compared to years past.

Can you take some pics? If you have trouble posting, many of us can help.

Nope... No Screw on.  The stealer has done that to me before too...

I didn't look until I already had the oil out of the bike...  Which reminds me...  I should change it again.

Looks like the new versions of the GS have smaller indicator bulbs.

The No. 37 bulb is a submini wedge base bulb.  It puts out about 1/4  the light of the 194.

Try a No. 70 bulb.  It's a submini that radiates three times as much light as the No. 37.  Still not as much as a 194 but much better than the 37.
