Heard about this today and just gotta share it with you peoples:
Somebody parked their R1 (i know i know not a gs but bear with me) in a lot at UCLA and went to work. Sometime between 9 and 5 in this very visible lot right next to a main street somebody took a crowbar to this poor guys bike to get his helmet. Did $800 worth of damage to the bike and made off with an Arai I think. I understand riding is dangerous but damn since when can people just bash a bike in plain view in broad daylight and actually get away with it... :? not cool man, not cool... even helmet locks dont deter theives now.. :x
on a completely unrelated note i was looking through member pics and saw a tornado 250 dash on one of them. couldnt find member's handle to ask him personally and a serch was futile so does anybody know anyhting about where you could order it from and for how much?
that's why I carry my helmet with me all the time (work-school-store).
makes a fine extra basket.

I never leave anything on my bike unless I can personally see it at all times. For example, if I go into some place to eat, unless I know I can get a seat by a window to keep an eye on the bike, I'll bring the helmet in with me. It sounds paranoid (or obsessive, depending on your perspective ) but I'd rather not take the risk of someone messing with my bike and not being able to hurt them severely for it.
Boy it sure does suck to have your sh*t taken :( ! I feel bad for the guy, it's one of the worst feelings in the world.
My helmet was right next to my bike when it was taken, but whoever took it wasn't interested in a $450 Shoei, I guess. Makes me happy, insurance doesn't cover me helmet, me don't think. :thumb:
But otherwise, I agree with you guys, I used to take my helmet with me everywhere. Even though I looked like a moron at class most of the time...
Helmet = chick magnet. Why wouldn't you want to carry it with you?
I usally carry my helmet in with me too. And try to get a window seat to watch the bike.
But what i dont understand is why would someone even want to steal a helmet. its like stealing someones dirty underwear. just get your own.
A helmet on a desk at work makes a great conversation piece!

Especially if you're a girl....because to a guy, they'll say, "oh, you ride, eh?" To a girl, they'll say, "oh, who rides?" When one admits that one rides, and one is a female, you get the shocked look. Women have babies, for criminy sakes....moto riding is easy in comparison.
the owner of that bike is a girl and the helmet is a pretty, pink discontinued helmet, but not an arai.
She's a little pissed:

She shouldn't hold back... she should just say how she really feels...
That does indeed suck major ass, but:
Quote"But your honor, he MADE me shaZam! on his head. He stole my helmet, damaged my new motorcycle and gave my gloves and helmet to his fat ass, jelly-baby-bearing, girlfriend in Juicy garb!" GUILTY!
I always take my helmet with me. If there's no way to carry it or place to lock it where I'm going, oh well, I don't go.

Mine has started some conversations, but the guy I want to get doesn't like motorcycles. :(
wow. That's incredibly sucky. I always take my helmet with me too - great chic magnet, oh wait, I AM a chick! : )

I feel your pain... The wife doesn't motorcyles, guns, computer games, stereos, or music gear. :(
I totally want that helmet.

I do use my helmet lock... although I figure if someone steals my $100 KBC I'm not gonna be that heartbroken... yeah if I someday spend $400 on a helmet that SOB won't leave my sight!!!

I've never had so many girls say hi to me walking by until I started bringing my helmet to class, work, etc... :)
Now that I have my bike in storage mode, my social life is gone until next year. :(
Had my helmet cut off my bike too....happened about two years ago...beautiful KBC Wolf in chrome.....bastard sliced through the plastic on my SV to get it and cut off the latches for the helmet (made it pretty much useless)....I have since purchased a GiVi case for the SV and will never leave my helmet like that again....
