the composition doesn't work for me. the tree in the middle cuts the picture in half. hence, there's no flow. also, lacks the focal point. my eyes just get lost.

Nice shot of the moon and Venus. I seen the same thing tonight and set my scope outside to cool down. Soon after some clouds rolled in. :roll: As for the noise, you might want to shoot a lower ISO if possible.
i will have to manually choose the ISO from now on. im pretty dissapointed in the auto mode..
Damn...I thought this was a new way to do tequila. :(
Oh...and I like the second pic best, too, but I'd never have known it if JetSwing hadn't pointed the reason out! :mrgreen:

I like the pics chris, but I've seen you take much better photos, but that isn't to say these ones aren't good! I like them, and I have to jump o the bandwagon of "I like the second one better". The only thing I don't like about the second one is that damn half-shown tree; kinda distracting. Clone it out or something? :dunno: Unless it is there for some artistic purpose beyond my comprehension :thumb:
i always try to shoot in iso 100 even if it's kind of dark...i just use tripod. if i'm shooting a moving subject, i would no choice but to bump up the iso.
phaedrus, the trees frames the subject, the moon. so i think it would be better than nothing. i would have like to see more of the partial tree on the left.

Yeah, thats sort of what I mean. I see how it helps frame it, but it would have been better to see more of it than just a couple little twigs. You are right though, it *is* better than nothing. :thumb:
I was lookin' and thinking the first shot would work better as an upright cropped just to the right of the tall tree then realised that the second shot is pretty much that.
Don't be too disapointed about the "auto", that setting will usualy gaurantee capturing some kind of pic, I find even the "scene" modes not up to it (quite) Play around with the manual settings, experience is everything.
When I used to print from film I found that a "cheat" was nearly always required as the moon never quite looked as large as the eyes percieved it, full moon usualy made with a coin on the paper but with digital technology you can be much more convincing.
when i mentioned the auto program, i was refering specifically to the ISO. i did manually choose aperature and shutter speed. things like WB and ISO i let the camera do. will consider manually chosing the ISO from now on.
