Title: AMAZING Tires!!! Super Grip, Great Wear! Best Price!!!
Post by: zimbabweman43 on December 11, 2005, 11:47:45 PM
A few months ago I replaced my worn Bridgestone BT45's with GBC Street Shark tires.

They are absolutely dirt cheap at http://www.americanmototire.com

$22 for the front and $38 for the rear!

I feel these tires perform as well as the BT45's for way less. The tread pattern looks sports too!

Thought I would share this great find with you guys!

Well I guess people don't appreciate passing on of useful information. I'll remember that when I find another deal. :x  :nana:

I bet they get twice as short milage as BT45. There is always a balance between milage and grip. You cant invent a bike these days :)

Its a little disconcerting that I can't find any external reviews of this particular line of tires.

The CBC Street Shark tires are from Cheng Shin, they have been selling ATV tires under the GBC name for sometime now.  A local mail order place has them listed as Cheng Shin Street Sharks.  Like the switch to the Maxxis brand name because the Cheng Shin name doesn't have a good reputation in this country.  The Maxxis Promax do perform well but are rather short lived according to opinions expressed here and elsewhere.

Too early to find reviews yet I think, they just came out.  I'm still reluctant to try Cheng Shin tires, but time will tell.  Keep us posted on your tire life.  A pair at our local place is about $76 in 110/70 and 140/70 sizes, about the same as AMT w/o shipping charge but with sales tax.

Don't listen to them.  Someone posted a tip and I got a great deal on a Suzuki jacket at closeout over a year ago.  Best jacket around.  They don't make it anymore.
Let us know how the tires wear.

let me tell yall a little story.  i am in college.  i am broke.  i bought these tires because i work at a motorcycle shop and got them for cheap.  i have experience on bikes with decent tires.  these tires are not decent.

i bought the set at dealer cost for $41 and change IIRC and mounted/balanced them myself.  the rear bead did not want to seat at all, but with the help of four guys, it finally popped.  the tires look decent, but they are in no way sticky.  when riding aggressivly i feel the front end slipping out constantly.  it is NOT confidence inspiring, and I have not been riding hard since I put the tires on in fear of my own life.

the tires wear ok, but there are some slits in the tires that look like what could form cracks eventually.

if you want a cheap ass set of tires that will get you by commuting, sure they would work simply  OK.  but if you actually want to ride on a decent set of tires, choose something else.

Hey ... I am working and still broke ... and I love cheng Shin's by that or any other name. I even had CS's on the back of my GS. The verdict ... 6K miles (the stock bridgestone types last me 4-5K) and about the same grip ... definetly worth trying ... unless you want chewing gum grip ... cruiser tires, CS's blow the rest of the makes away ... I dont ever remember swapping out a CS for any other ... as in they never wear out ... and the standard combo I use is Hi max front and marquis rear ... The marquis gets grip from its tread pattern, not stickiness of the rubber ... The hi max is the standard metzeler copy. V pattern tread. BTW the Marquis front are so hard I's stay away from those even on a cruiser.
Cool.

while i dont mind Chengshins, i cant stand thier marquis tire, ive not liked the 3 diff bikes they were on.

the highmax and barracuda and others work well. im thinking of trying these as ive got 2 bikes using same size tires and both can corner. perhaps after xmas then.

Post by: The Buddha on December 12, 2005, 09:49:10 PM
Barracuda V was what I put on the back of the GS years ago ... not bad at all. Decent grip similar to the stock and 25% better mileage than stock ... Marquis fronts are a disaster ... Pur it on the back of a real cruiser and it will work perfectly ... its grip comes from tread pattern ... not rubber stickiness or temperature. Lasts forever. Like I said I never have removed a cheng shin off a wheel. Chances are it will out live the motor, or I'd sell the bike or somehting. My brother put 20K on a FJ 600 with these and never came close to wearing it out.
Cool.

I noticed them here... http://www.ironpony.com/ironponydirect/ProductPagedetailsBrand.asp/ProdID/116992/ImageName/111.jpg&Kitkey2=GBC%20STREET%20SHARK&Brand=&Class2=&Class3=&Class1=

I'll wait for the jury to decide. Hopefully the current tires make through the '06 season.

You get what you pay for.

Do you really want to risk your bike and life to a $40 tire?
