Title: Guild Wars
Post by: jason_S on December 12, 2005, 05:03:32 PM
Hey, it's been a while since I've posted here.  I usually posted while I was at work, and work's been pretty hectic.

Anyway, I just got this game last week, and I was wondering if anyone here plays it.  It's a pretty fun game, although sometimes its hard finding semi-intelligent people to group with.  I like the fact that there are no monthly fees; it's bugs me to have to pay $50 for a game plus $15/mo to play it.

So if you play, what's your char name?

A couple friends of mine play it and I've been thinking about getting it...

I'll post when/if I get it and set it up...   :thumb:

too bad is not a true massive multiplayer game. you see, only on a very confined area (inside a castle or barricade) you are able to interact (chat?) with hundreds of players, but as soon as you step out into the virtual world, the server creates a virtual 'mini-server' for every group. Because of this, you will not find other players roaming around the landscape (not much fun), only computer controlled characters.

That's actually kind of why I like it.  I usually play video games to get away from people anyway, but I like RPG's and there aren't a whole lot of good single player ones out right now (until Oblivion comes out..soon I hope)  So I got to looking at the various MMO's and the reviews said you could solo pretty well in this game.  And there are tons of towns with people you can go to if you want to group with somebody.  But having a private gamespace for your party means you don't have any idiots to deal with while your trying to finish a quest either.  I guess since I'm just used to playing SP games I don't really even notice the lack of other characters roaming the environment.  There are alot of NPC's to make up for it.

there's always a fun game called 'FATE' by the company Wildtangent, and if that company sounds familiar is because it is!

You see, the game is very addictive (screen follows)...

and another screen (http://www.fatethegame.com/img/ss_02_800x600.jpg)... and another one (http://www.fatethegame.com/img/ss_03_800x600.jpg).

Another plus is that the full game is free to download (free to play up lo lvl 5), but the problem is that wildtangent install a small program called 'web driver' (Spybot classifies as SpyWare), and wildtangent gives an explanation about what a web driver really is: http://anonym.to/?http://support.wildgames.com/wt_nsp.html (but I don't trus them).

GameSpot did I review here: http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/fate/review.html

So unless you 'enjoy' spyware, you can download the non-spyware version from emule:

I have to agree that I kinda like the private space idea.  I played world of warcraft when it first came out, and they had a huge issue with kill stealing, I dont remember exactly how it happened but basically people would lurk, let you kill an enemy, run in and kill it and steal the loot after you did half the work.  It was a real pain in the but.  Not to mention the monthly fee.

I am currently playing guild wars and I like it.  Having played WOW I can see some obvious similiarites, especially the mission list, and map, and the look and feel of hte game.  There are some things that are different, especially your skills options.  In WOW there is an unlimited about of skills that you can use at any one time, basically any skill that you have learned, can be used at any time.  In Guild wars, you can inly use 8 skills at a time, meaning you have to pick and choose what skills you want to take BEFORE you go into the world.

Anyway enough ranting and raving.  I am on there, blah blah blue is the name of my character, I am currently a lvl 9 necromancer/elementalist.

Alright, I'll have to look you guys up next time I'm on.  I have 3 chars so far,  a lvl 16 warr/elem named Thoryn Rinor, a lvl 10 elem/ranger named Rowan Tacyn, and a level 5 or 6? monk/elem named Nico Roladu.
I usually play in the evening.  The game is getting HARD now for my lvl 16 char.  TONS of enemies.  I can take Charr out in just a couple hits now though. :)
I tend to solo and just use hench, unless I'm feeling sociablel.  I joined a guild called Myth, but they do mostly PVP and not alot of PVE, but they do help sometimes.

No more Guildwars and whatnot. This is a completely free MMORPG called 'SilkRoad Online'.

  I've been playing for a few days now and it rocks! better image quality than World of Warcraft and a very complex plot/quests/system.

Based on real chinese/persian events (i think the game is chinese) mixed with fantasy, so you might get confused if you have never played an mmorpg or if you are not familiar with asian economy/characters/buildings

A few more screens (I pumped the highest quality just for the screens). click to enlarge.

and I made a small 1 min video in wmv format (3MB)

download here (http://anfume.com/silkroad.wmv)

Awesomeness!
