I found this peice of metal in my tire sunday, I took it to the local suzuki dealer and they said just to keep an eye on it and if it's leaking they can replace it for $70 dollars for mounting, and probably about $160 or so for the tire. If it's not leaking should I replace it anyway? It is probably close to the inside.

I would pull it out now to see if it is leaking. you don't want the metal to fall out wile riding and have a sudden loss of air. if it is leaking you should find a different shop because that one is charging way to much, or you could just put a plug in it or the stuff called Ride On should do a good job if the hole is small enough.
Well that place is big...Bob landphere's, he owns many car dealers around here. They charge about double of what hillsboro motosport does. I don't plan on riding for quite a while, but I don't want to pull it out because I'd rather drop my bike off somewhere than take the wheel off myself...it's too cold in the garage and I'm lazy.

It better be gold plated....seriously, most likely you will be fine by leaving it in there, if you are really uncomfortable with riding with a nail in the tire then buy a new tire online and take just the rim and old tire down there to get replaced. It will cost you about $110 tops to get it all done....$80 or so for the tire and like $30 bucks to have it mounted...
They probably wouldn't do that, big companies have dumb policies.
The only thing I would be concerned about is how long is that piece of metal and is it going to scratch the inside of the rim, such to the point that if I mount a new tire, the scratch is going to ruin the bead of the new tire. Also, as the tire wears down how much farther is it going to be pushed in, or how much deeper is it going to gouge the rim?
I'll probably get it fixed soon. Just need to find time to get it to the shop.
Pull it out, if the thing leaks air put a tube in it ... OK low profile tire = no tube ... you're screwed ... then say patch in inside and outside.

Well like I said, they are a big company, so they charge whatever they want to because people will pay it. They are the only suzuki dealer that is close, the other one is like 30 min away.

Tires aren't specific to Suzuki bikes, you can take any bike to any dealership to have tires mounted
pull it out, put a 3.75X17 tube in it (yes you must remove the old valvestem) and run it. i had a perelli dragon with a 1" gash in it, 1/2" was through and through. i put 2 patches over it from inside then installed a tube and ran it like a normal tire. damn that tire hooked yup good. if you fear it however, ill send you 20$ for it. :)
Can't you take it to a a garage and get it plugged from the inside. I have done this to car tyres and been fine. I would not leave it in you don't know what will happen, it may rip the tyre and I would not take the risk.
i'd say dont patch it .. do not plug it . most shops will not patch a bike tire .. for the simple fact if you plug it then your messing with the ply structsure . most shops here in texas wont touch a tire that needs a plug . the yamahahaha shop here wont even look at it .. butt .. if you buy the tire from them they will mount and and balance it free :) so all you pay is like .. 80 bucks for the tire and call it a day :) . go to a few shops and check it out .. even if you have to drive an hour . it will be worth it .. whats 8 bucks out of your pocket to get there and back on your bike :P

I would pry the bit out and use the soapy water trick to see if its leaking.

I know that. But I don't think the harley daaler or the ducati dealer would want to touch it. So they are pretty much the only one unless I want to go wayy out of my way.

See I have had people tell me they cant tube a low profile tire. If its 80 or taller ... no problem tube it. I also have had people not want to tube a radial ... but I say screw them and I tube it ... but OK radials in 80 or taller aren't that common.

Yeah, take it out. If it leaks, It was probably going to leak, If not, You'r all good. Or you could do someone's burnout trick... That sounds intriguing. Maybe it will melt the tire and metal into each other.. or not. Anyway, take a video too. :mrgreen:
Well I finally got around to checking out my tire. The air pressure was good, so I decided to take whatever it was out. I got it out, and it turned out it is s peice of glass about 1/4'' long maybe a tad longer. Tire did is still not leaking, so I guess I'll just leave it alone.

I'm glad that it turned out to be something small. But the attitude that some of you push is a poor one for inexperienced riders. Riding on questionable tires is a major mistake on motorcycles. Why cheap out on the only thing that really holds your ride together? Just buy a new tire when you puncture one. Its cheap insurance for an expensive possible outcome. If you can't afford a few new tires each season, then bikes might not be your bag. Why tempt fate?
