ok so im not sure what happened... i was turning onto my street off of a major street, didnt take it faster than normal. I felt the side of my foot start to scrape next thing i know me and the bike are sliding. im fine, my NEW leather took the brunt of it. I landed on the shoulder i had seperated, and managed to sprain it pretty bad, i have an mri friday.
The bike needs a new case cover, i need new clipons, and a shift lever. I can get all from work cheap so no biggie. The left side plastics and the upper need replacin though.
The worst part is my gf was drivin behind me and saw the whole thing, god i wish she hadnt, shes so freaked. She said it looked like i just plopped on my left, she didnt see one side or the other give out on me.
Ill have pics soon, but the part that bugs me is not knowing why i dropped it. Oh well, im fine, and i rode the bike home, so no biggie.
Wow. Glad to see you're ok. Hope the MRI comes up clean. Care to give us a gear rundown and how they held up?
Damn. That sucks. I hope your shoulder is alright. Good luck with the GF. She prolly thinks you're in danger all the tie now.
Glad it wasn't worse. Hope you heal up well and quickly.
That sucks dude. Glad you are okay.
sure, my helmet is fine, my visor hit, so its still good. My gloves were teknic violator i was wearing them on my last wreck about 9 months ago too. The will need to be replaced now but they held up fine, just really starting to show wear. My jacket is a teknic violator and the left arm/shoulder is scuffed witha few gouges thanks to the shittty pavement. definately still wearable.
I was just wearing jeans and shoes as i had just gotten off work, suprisingly no damage even though i slid with the bike on top. Im pretty stiff today, but thats to be expected.
When I went down at the track on Saturday I was limping about on my knee for a few days, thinking I had sprained it. I can now walk on it normally without limping, as it's just REALLY bruised. There's a possibility the same thing happened to your shoulder. It could be mostly impact pain, rather than sprain pain. I hope you heal up fast.
Did you have a chance to inspect the surface where you went down? Sand, salt, snow, ice, grease? Something must have reduced the traction.
btw do you normally scrape the pegs while riding around town? My humble weenie opinion is that that should be avoided, as there's no more margin in case things get iffy.
jeff
sorry to hear about this Dan! sucks big.
how long were you on the road?
how cold was it out (cold pavement)?
how clean was the pavement (sand, oil, etc as mentioned above)?
given the above, how smooth were you on the throttle?
all are possibilities...
:(
Glad you're ok, Daniely. :o Just tell your gf you did it on purpose to get her sympathy hugs and to see how much she cares. ;)
Take care out there!
I hate when you don't know what happened!! Makes you feel like there's nothing you can do to avoid the same problem. :(
At least it wasn't that bad.
it's cause yoru a squid.
Told you those Honda's were no good.
:nana:
im getting a honda in the spring so :nana: +1
I see a thread called "Went down again.." and Pastrami is the last poster.
I was scared to come in here since we already got in trouble.
OK so answer as many questions as I can...
It was cold outside, maybe 50's? I had gone maybe 2 miles (it takes me 5 min to get to work from the house, and i was on my way home). I did have some tire slippage leaving work, but no more than normal.
My speed was neglegable, not going fast at all. I took the turn like I normally do, I wouldnt even say it was spirited. I was looking forward to getting home and hanging out with the GF before her business christmas party.
Upon further inspection of the road on the way to the ER (had to stop there to turn so I thought I would look). I saw a trail of antifreeze goin one way, some oil crossing it in the other direction, debris in the suicide lane, and some dust/gravel. I cant imagine i hit the fluids, they were very very minute. The debris and stuff has always been there, so I always take it ez there.
I would say I was smooth on the throttle mainly because I dont specifically remember the rear slippin out, or the front diving. I was turning, and felt the SIDE of my foot scraping, the next thing i know im sliding on the ground.
Its killing me not knowing what happened. At least with my last wreck I could take full fault for being stupid, but i wasnt horsing around or ANYTHING this time....Oh well. Parts are on the way. I just need a case cover and a shift lever now. Ill have the bike ready as soon as my shoulder is good. I have a followup on Friday at 9 AM. Ill keep ya'll posted.
well, sounds like it was just a cosmic aligning of a bunch of things. I think the tires not being warm and the pavement being cold too were contributors. maybe they were enough to set you off if you hit the antifreeze...who knows. At least you're alright.
and for those that would call hima squid...his feet are BIG and he drags toes going straight....
lol dont make fun of my size 13 feet. It is routine for my feet to scrape unfortunately, or rest on the swingarm. Any rides longer than 15 min and I wear my boots because of the foot contact.

My son has size 14 feetz...I feel your pain in finding shoes. My baby falls over his feet WALKING all the time!
if you can even see a hint of antifreeze then thats where i would have to lay blame. Oil will absorb into the road, heck asphualt is made with petro products and is cut with diesel to spread easyer before compacting. Antifreeze/coolant wont absorb into the asphalt. the coolant is still there its just the water that evaperates. a little moisture on that surface will make it slick as ice again. i have to soak up coolant, oil, transmission and hydro fluids from the roads around the terminals where i work. By far the slickest ive found has to be that coolant, it wont soak into the asphalt.
Got a little update.....
Looking at the bike, its not to bad:
Need a new shift lever, left clipon and barend and shes rideable. If i want cosmetically fine i need a case cover, mirror, upper and left side fairings. Really not that bad.
Me ont he other hand...turns out I may have torn my rotator cuff. I find out this week when I have my MRI. If so that means I get surgery, and im done riding for at least 3 months, GRRRR!!! On a positive note though, they will fix the rest of my shoulder as well (the seperation and the tendon issue). So its all for the better.
OY! hope its all good.
