My sister's 18 month old baby, Mirriam, is in a poor state. For the last year or so she's developed a history that can't seem to be propperly diagnosed. She awakes every 3~4 weeks vomiting and conitnues to do so throughout the day, then stops. Yesterday morning (12/22) she awoke in this state and didn't stop toward the end of the evening. They spent the night with their doctor at Walter Reed (I think, might be the joint at Ft. Meade though) without any improvement. Today was a repeat. She has been able to sleep much and she can't hold food down. The doctors have given her medication to help with the vomiting, but she still can't keep food down. We're running into day 3, and they've transferred her to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.
As it stands they have no idea what the cause is. Primary belief is abdominal migrains, but the only way they can't determine that is by eliminating everything else. She's very dehydrated and seems to be losing fluids, and her hemoglobin count is very low (I've watched enough ER to know that usually happens when someone has blead/is bleeding a lot).
To further complicate the matter my sister is 27 weeks along with twins and is supposed to be on bed-rest. She will likely be laid up at Johns Hopkins as well.
Guys, this may not be so severe an issue as what my gut tells me it is, but they're spending Christmas Eve, possibly Christmas, and more, at Johns Hopkins. I'm sure you can imagine what this can do to a whole family, especially when so many of us are thousands of miles away.
I know some of you pray. Mirriam Paige and the rest of the Nehi family would appreciate more prayers, hopes and wishes.
We'll keep you and yours in our prayers in this trying time. Consider it done. Wilson
Prayers sent.
Good thoughts...healing thoughts...on their way. May this season find everyone's prayers answered, and may your loved ones come home healed and healthy.

+1. Best wishes and prayers :thumb:
Added to my list. Keep us updated. Ya, me and the big man converse daily. Have faith brother, In the word of God in Mark 11:24-25 reads:
"Therefore I say to you, whatever you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them. And whenever you stand praying, if you have anything against anyone, forgive him, that your Father in heaven may also forgive you your trespasses."
They're still out. They did an ultrasound at johns hopkins and determined that her intestine had partially overlapped. They tried to correct the problem but ended having to perform surgury, which was actually a rather good thing. When she was opened up the doctor found a growth feeding off her intestine's blood supply called mekel-S diverticulum, a congenital birth defect. From my understanding, this is basically a saugage-like growth that uses an abnormal amount of your body's resources. It's quite possibly the reason she's been getting sick as often as she has and they believe it's the reason they couldn't correct the intestines overlap. Unfortunately, this growth had already killed a good portion of her bowl and 75cm of intestine had to be removed.
Because she had so much dead tissue inside her she is at an extraordinary risk of severe infection. They've got her pumped full of antibiotics and pain killers in an attempt to lower the risk and to keep her asleep.
Right now she has a hose going in through her nostril into her stomach to pump out the bile, acid and soliva becuase her repaired intestine isn't ready for normal function yet. She's got an IV to keep her hydrated and an epidural is still working on her. Also four contacts attached to her chest to monitor her vitals.
I just learned this from my sister. She hasn't been able to sleep much for the last couple days and it shined through in her voice. They finally got her, her husband and Mirriam into a room and the staff is being very helpful and generous. She thanks everyone who prayed and all who are continuing to do so.
They are staying in room 623 at Johns Hopkins main hospitol in downtown Baltimore.

Update?
At least they located the problem.
Best wishes.
<---Sending prayers
Yesterday they took the tube out of her and let her bodily fluids work through her system. Everything went along smoothly but she oviously still didn't feel well. Today the doctors said she can have anything clear so them been working on jello and stuff and she was very glad to have it. She's still got the epidural in her back but she sat up today and played with her dolls and stuff. My sister is very happy and relieved. She thanks all of you guys for your thoughts and prayers.
Thanks for the update. Keep us posted in the future

This is VERY good news. Good thoughts still going their way. (And those epidurals are the BEST! Thank goodness the doctors there believe in good pain management!!! :thumb: )

Any updates? I sure hope that 2006 will be a great year for you and everyone involved. :)
I haven't heard anything in a couple days. No news = good news. They let her go home so I'm sure things are going dandy.
This is really digging up OLD threads, but I was watching TV and something reminded me of this thread...
So how's your neice doing?
She is doing good. Her diet is almost back to normal and there have been no complications. And now she's swearing...lol
