Title: Question on stock pipes...
Post by: annguyen1981 on December 27, 2005, 11:13:53 PM
Know how to remove the baffle from a stock pipe???  Does this harm the bike in anyway?

I'm not too sure  how to remove it...the GS's I've had have never came with a stock exhaust...but I've ran plenty of them with slip-ons without having to rejet or anything so it won't hurt anything.

I figure that it's not gonna hurt anything because it's like taking away some ot the restrictions on the exhaust flow.  I just can't seem to find a low priced can to put on my baby.

On a carbureted motor that can have a very serious effect on performance.

Removing a restriction in the brething abillity means that it will breath "more".  However, while the motor is breathing more air, the carburetors are still providing the same amount of fuel as before, which creates a leaner mixture.  Leaner mixtures burn hotter and faster.  High temps can lead to damages because...well...your shaZam! can melt.  Faster ignition can lead to preignition or detonation (ping/knock).

A restriction is only so IF it is preventing a setup from seing it's full potential in it's current state.  The baffle is part of a tuned system.

There's tons of info here on the site about rejetting and mixtures to use when doing so.

Here's a link to one

Here's a link to the rejetting matrix

Both of these topics can also be found in the FAQ section.

For what it's worth, I have a V&H full system and the K&N lunchbox filter on my bike and I went up to 150 mains and a 40 pilot with 3 turns out and it seems to work pretty well.  I might try a slightly smaller main this spring when I have the bike in pieces just to see what happens.

Thankz for the replies Mak & Jake!

I've been wanting to mod out my '04f but I didn't want to re-jet. (Mainly because it's my first bike, and I don't know what I'm doing)

how cheap are you looking.....you bought a new bike
why would you ghetto a new bike?
but if you want just go with the super ghetto drilling holes in your can
look it up in a search there are a few diff people that have done it.

Srinath has come up with one of the cheapest/good mod with the flange
slightly scratched race cans are very cheap....Srinath has a few
might want to ask him.
