Unless you bypass the circuit, the GS won't even try to start unless the clutch is disengaged. That means you gotta pull the clutch lever all the way in to even get it to turn over, just like in a manual transmission car.

it's the clutch switch.

if you want to start the bike without reparing the clutch lever, put the bike in neutral. bypass the clutch switch (see link below) using a flat head screw driver. then, start the bike.

it might even be the switch itself took a hit.

no no no...there's a contact switch inside the lever.  It's not the cable or lever it's self.  There should be two wires going to the clutch lever...pull them and run a jumper between the two and see if it will start.  Also, make sure it's not in gear.  If you got any contact on the left side of the bike the kick-stand switch may have been snagged.

yes there should be 2 screws that are uner the handle.  You can simply unscrew it and take the switch out and jump the two across one another.  Also make sure your battery is actually charged enough to start it..

splice the clutch switch wires together, also side stand ones, but only if it is in neutral :nono:

If you dropped it on the left side, it could potentially be the kick-stand switch too...

But, most likely the clutch switch like everyone else said.
