I have done a search and haven't come up with anything.
My question is.... does the GS-F have a fuel filter? I've been having problems with my bike stalling on me. Very slow warm up, with choke open, stalls out frequently. Once she is warmed up she idles fine, but when riding when i go to stop she will stall out on me. Generally before i hit 1st gear. Easy to start back up but i'm afraid she will leave me stranded somewhere.
At first i thought maybe bad gas, so i put some "fresh" gas in, still same issue. Changed out the plugs (they were black), she is a little peppier after that but still stalls.
I have 12k miles on it right now.
Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am not a mechanic, but i can tinker a bit.
TIA.
I am pretty sure there is one inside the tank, but I can't say for sure. I've never had to poke around in there (yet) so this is only an assumption.
For 'gits and shiggles', why not drain the fuel out, disconnect the tank and take it off and see? :)
There is an in-tank fuel filter. If the idle is set at the recommended 1200-1300rpms, then it may be too low when the bike is cold, for this reason we suggest using the throttle to keep the rpm's up to prevent stalling when the bike has not fully warmed up, yet. Your bike is fine, it's normal.
thanks for the info on the filter, but she is completely warmed up before i head out.
this is a new "issue", it didnt' do this last winter, i keep it on a batt tender when not riding.
once she is nice and warmed up she idles fine, even trying to keep throttle on when stopping it will still stall., but revs up fine, so it's not like she is "starving" for gas.
like i said i amnot a mechanic, but this is not normal for my bike.
Did you drain the carbs or use fuel stabilizer when you stored the bike last winter? I think the pilot jet passages might be clogged. Maybe run some carb cleaner through the gas (the kind you mix with gas).
I didnt' store it, i rode all year, same as this year. As long as there is no ice i'm out there.
Carb cleaner? Can you suggest a good one? I'm willing to try that.
Heading for fla in 2 weeks, i want to be good to go by then.
Thanks.
Yamaha carb cleaner. See link for instructions: http://gstwins.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=136250#136250
Or, search 'carb and cleaner' with username 'seshadri_srinath'.
Thanks. :thumb: Now all i need is some "luck vs skill"
Bah, pour that stuff in there with a full tank (or whatever the directions say!) and ride it ;) The only skill you need is not spilling it. :P
