My bike is currently running poorly.
It might just be because the weather is a bit cold and damp, but I'm not sure.
Recently I cleaned the carbs, re-shimmed the valves and hoovered my air filter.
The engine seems weaker than it used to be between 3k and 5K RPM.
It idles fine at about 1300 RPM when warm but stumbles briefly when throttle is applied, even with the clutch held in.
The engine also misses occasionally when I come off the throttle to slow down.
Low throttle positions seem to be the worst point, higher throttle positions seem ok, better than before. Higher RPMs seem smoother than before.
This could be due to a higher throttle position for higher rpms?
The engine starts 1st time with choke on but seems to run a little rough with the choke. Nothing serious just the occasional miss or pop.
Current plans are (in order)
1) add a bit of in fuel carb cleaner and go for a long ride.
2) fit new spark plugs, possibly one step hotter.
3) balance the carbs. (using a vacuum guage rather than by eye like I did before)
4) swap the left intake shim that was at .03mm clearance so it's at .08mm.
5) get a new air filter.
I would also double check your clearances with the throttle cable and make sure it dosn't get hung up on anything. as with the choke sliders
Then I would also suggest to double check the pilot jets when you sync the carbs
Sounds a little lean down low. Cold weather leans out carburetion (Low pressure system, higher oxygen content). Stumbling=lean; missing=lean.
Does she idle higher with the choke on? If so=lean.
1) You already cleaned the carbs
2) Wait for weather to change (oh wait...sorry)
3) Yes, but I suspect the too tight valve suckin' air.
4) As long as it's within tolerance, but I'd err looser.
5) You cleaned the airfilter which allows more air through and may contribute to the lean condition. Is it the paper filter? If so, sometimes the paper get little holes in it, but the valve I'd do first.
