Hi all,
As some of u know, i´m rebuilding my engine and i´m thinkin about turbocharge it afterwards, so I would probally need parts that will last and can handle the more power that the turbocharge will give to the engine.
I know that the Kawasaki GZP1100 pistons will fit in, the 78mm ones, but i was thinking if its possible to find an 75mm one that will fit in there...
Also, I would like to know what u guys think about replacing my original rod for an WISECO one or someother maker that makes forjed rods? does anyone know where can I find one that will fit the GS?
Other thing, i´m worried if the lower part of the engine (crackshaft) will handle the power? what can i do to make it stronger?
I´m thinking about running my turbocharged sistem @ around 1.5bar of pressure!
thx
good luck turbocharging a carbed engine..
i would love to see that. ;) :thumb:
there are 2 in existance, one as a Blow through and one as a Draw through. fact the Draw through setup was being sold on the board here for 1500.00 i belive.
75mm pistons arent going to give you much, just a tiny little pep isabout all, i have a set, waiting on a set of Cyl to get bored and then installed.
I´m not looking to get more power from engine by using bigger pistons, I´m looking for a more reliable piston to handle the turbocharge!
stock should be fine then. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=22596.0 if the old links work that is,
Pity you missed out on the turbo GS that was for sale a little while ago it was going for a good price too  :thumb:
I would think the helical cut primary drive is probably the weak point of it all. I think I remember reading someone machined in a thrust washer for it but don't recall the details.
A solid rebuild with quality components and attention to all your tolerances will net you longevity. Your rods should be fine. Rod failure most often occurs under extension not compression (of course excluding a hydraulic'd cylinder or some other form of mechanical interference). You are actually *helping* the problem by turbocharging (more pressure on the piston dome to keep it from flying out the top of the deck).
Last year just called and said they wanted the idea back... just kidding, good luck, check out megasquirt, its a fuel injection computer that you program from your computer at home, you just buy the injectors and throttle bodies and stuff like that, some companies make there kits and sell them all put together, its really cool, they also have a forum. with it being so programmable you could map it totally to your bike.
I will put the turbine in the place of the airbox and the exaust will be placed undertail :) The kit is almost done, i~m just more worried if the engine will handle it.
Btw, my mechanic is using RD350 carbs on my turbocharged system.... strange isnt it? he said its better than stock GS one, even tho its smaller...
One good thing about living in Brazil is that we have GAS and ALCHOOL in our petrol stations ....i can run my engine by alchool... which is much better for turbocharged engines, cuz i think they make the engine to work a lot colder...

Big spender! that's gonna be sweet but damn expensive. My question is if your going to do an engine rebuild anyways, why not just get some 78mm pistons and bore out the cylinders while your there. Then add some high lift cams, and this turbo set up you've got and you're making a lot of power, well for a gs at least.
Don't use the max amount of psi that you can on the turbo, keep it somewhere in the middle. Although you will get more power out of more psi, you put the motor at a higher risk of being destroyed. Keep it at a medium setting and if you know your going to be going racing, you can bump it up for a couple of runs.
what tail is that?
70-80 hp is about all the stock cranks will take before they start becoming unreliable. even then i dont think the boost was turned up very far on either turbo GS's

I was just thinking about aslking this... I've never seen a tail like this. Looks Neat! :thumb:
The seats and tail are one-off. He made them...or had them made.
Save your money and buy another bigger bike. You will spend alot of money for a bit more performance and sacrifice your reliability in the long run. you can tweak up your gs500 for a lot less dollars and maintain your reliability. I own a factory Suzuki Turbo bike which is a fuel injected 673cc four cylinder engine, and honestly the performance isn't that mind blowing. My 83 Katana 1100, or my Bandit 1200 would have disappeared out of site before the Turbo bike hit 5th gear.
Enjoy your GS500 for what it is, while having fun along the way with discret modifications, as it's no fun having to work on your bike every weekend while your mates are out riding their bikes....
Been there done that.........cheers :icon_lol:
What exhaust is on that bike? it looks really good, not too big like a lot of them look.
Hi mike!
Its an Yoshimura exaust, but it was worked to get even better flow, so it was cutted off a couple of inches...
BTW, i´ve just dropped the ideia of turbocharge my bike.....
I will stick with the original engine with the following mods:
- Milled Head (around 0.5mm, does enyone know how much it will rise my compression?)_
- Ported head
- Bigger Carbs (36mm b12 ones i think)
- Yoshimura exaust
- High flow air filters
looking foward to something like 50hp+ ...
maybe i will add a NOS later on...
