They are some brilliant pics.

It always makes me wonder what stories these buildings could tell if they could talk.

I've done some urban exploration myself but never took photos. There is an old asylum in Massachusets that I'd like to go check out sometime, that would be great. Road trip?  :thumb:

Nice pics!

I think the one you're taling about is in NORTHAMPTON...  They are about to tear it down in the next month or so, according to my friend.  He's BIG into this pasttime.  He went in, but not fully, the place in HUGE!!!

Even in his pics you can tell that the place is big. :thumb:

Or Danvers Asylum, considered to be the inspiration for H.P. Lovecraft's Arkham Sanitarium (which in turn served as the inspiration for the asylum of the same name that houses Batman's foes).  I'm not sure if you can still see it--destruction of the buildings is underway.

Then there's the Metropolitan State Hospital, which is also being torn down.  They used to rent it out for movie sets, since it really does look like an asylum and has all kinds of creepy tunnels underneath it.  The state police occasionally used it for indoor combat training.  They're turning it into condos and a golf course now...you can't get anywhere near it since they started demolition (I live close enough to this to hear the work going on).

In any event, if you ever want to see any of them you'll need to hurry since there's been a push over the past few years to reclaim the land that these occupy.

They're doing the same thing to the one in Northampton.  Mainly condos...

I wouldn't want to live in a house that was built where an asylum had been though...  It's like sacred ground...  NO ONE MAY ENTER!!!

Haven't these people seen Poltergueist??? :icon_twisted:

(I'm sure I misspelled the movie, but I'm too lazy to look it up...)

I'd like to see some more pic's of these buildings if anyones got any.

Where I live is the oldest inland settlement in Australia, settled in about 1815.

We have some buildings that date back to 1850's in town. The office I work in is a terrace house that was constructed in 1888.

My brother-in-law works at the Gaol, which was built in the 1880's I think. They still have the gallows there & the cell that the prisoners spent their last night in, is supposed to be haunted.

I think it's even creepier when you think about the fact that 1878 was before electric lighting. *shudder*
