Title: Anyone have experience with this product?
Post by: AgentNitz on January 15, 2006, 04:13:11 PM
I've been trying to find something that'll gimme a better grip on the tank. My knees and thighs tend to just slide all over the place. Tank bras seem to be the way to go, but I was wondering if anyone has used this stuff? www.techspec-usa.com
it seems to be fairly cheap, but if anyone has a better suggestion, please lemme know? thanks!

A better suggestion?  Wear propper leathers and/or start building some leg strength.

I'll post pics later of what tank-bras do to pretty paint.

Thought I would "glue" anything to my bike, those seem a far superior investment than a bra.

thats why alot of road racers keep a dirtbike around to train with.  get use to sliding, and working the legs alot.

for those people that can't just "go horseback riding" and happen to have a spare dirtbike laying around I think these look like a pretty damn good option for added grip.  I do find myself slipping around a little bit but I haven't really found it to be too much of a problem.

guess i dont noticed sliding around .. i'v raced dirtbikes since i was 8 ..... i just dont see the sliding around .. you should be all up on the tank huh ? what i would think .. but i just learned about the whole .. leaning in to the turn to change your center of gravity so you  can get around corners faster because your tires will only go so far before they give way :) fun stuff fun fun stuff :) but its helped .. i found out on one of the roads around here :)

look up Stomp pads. they're clear and have big nubs for traction. I see them all over the track riders bikes. not very pretty if you ask me. Also, should be noted that mostly trackday hacks use them, not actual racers. I have yet to see a racers bike with them. I opted to go without.

I have the Ice Grip and THEY"RE GREAT!!! I wash and wax before I applied. Also, I used 3 of the traces to make one big one (Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha), but I found out that I didn't use nearly all that surface area, so I suggest using the shortest, most rounded pattern possible (probably the Honda and Suzuki). Of course, it might depend on your body type and riding style. I dig my knees into the tank, so I use a small area. I do hug the tank with the inside of my thigh when I hang off, but I've never had problems slipping when going downhill. Only when going straight downhill (when I would use my knees). These things made a WORLD of difference!!

There is a new type out on the market at the moment and they are clear so you barley notice them on the bike they must be a good thing as a lot of Aust superbike riders use them now and most of them had the dirt bike background so it must help and if Aust Superbike riders use them it must be worth something as per head australia has the best racers in the world (insert comments after smiley) :thumb:
