Yeah, like I said, I'd like to go, but it'd have to be a weekend only ride. Schooling takes up my time in the weeks. I'll be getting out of classes at 3pm on Fridays so I can head out right afterwards pretty much. However, due to the length of the trip for most people it might be easier to leave early Saturday morning, that way we won't be riding at night as much as we would be leaving Friday evening after people get off work and whatnot. Is there any camping there? I wouldn't mind strapping a sleeping bag and tent to the back of my bike and sitting around a campfire at night tossing back a few beers and chatting about bikes. That sounds like a damn good evening to me.

Sounds like a good ride to me, though.

Distance from (in miles)...
Austin: 476
Dallas: 583
Houston: 642
San Antonio: 447
El Paso: 328
Carlsbad, NM: 274
Clovis, NM: 455
Albuquerque, NM: 595

If we get 3 or 4 people we can always split the room. I don't mind sleeping on the floor.

I am up for it, but probably won't drink, religious issues. But that won't stop me from having a good time. But it sounds good. I am in San Antonio, Tx. I am in nursing school right now and I am swamped with school Mon-Fri. I was looking at my school schedule and I noticed that spring break is March 13-17. I am asumming everyone who goes to school will be free then. Maybe the weekend before or after that.
I am going to have to plan extensively for this.

That sounds awesome. I've been to Big Bend a few years ago.
I would be up for the trip from Houston.
Keep us posted.

i'm thinking the 17th of march . if weather works with us . budrick says this is a good time for him . alpha really dont have much of a plan i can do it cuz well i have that weekend off . sooo .. 17th is the date as of now .. but it all depends on what the weather and how the bills plan out and the way it looks is that . me and alpha can meet up in austin and run 290 to I-10 and you can meet budrick in SA and we can all meet up at the 290 and I-10  connect :)

**edit**  i need to know if you guys can get off early that fri. we really need to be there by fri. night so we can ride sat. moring/day .. all day .. then leave out monday morning . i need to know what kinda speeds you guys are comfy with on the highway ( i tend to go with the fast lane on the highway i.e. if there doing 90 i'm in with them )  thats what normaly happens on 35 .. its almost a never fail kinda thing . but i just need some info so i can get a plan set out . the only thing that might stop me at the moment is that i'm debating on trying to be come a police officer or not . i'm gonna go to one of there  days where they answer any q's you have an all that .. but i'll keep you up dated .. tell then if you guys well tell me what you can and cant do and what your willing to do thanks !

Sounds like a plan, except I'd have to head out on Sunday at some point. I've got a 9am class on Monday. As for speeds, I'm pretty comfortable on the highway at 90 so long as there are other people around me doing similar. I-35 is a real bad stretch all the way, so I know what you mean. As long as I don't get a ticket I'm good. I got a ticket on 35 coming south from Dallas to Austin in some town called Itasca, TX, and I can't afford another one. So yeah.
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: FearedGS500 on January 23, 2006, 06:07:24 PM
lol yeaaa .. good old itasca .. i could have told you not to speed threw there :) .. thats a little speed trap town . but yea i's say leave out sunday cuz i have work monday at 9am

Wow, yall travel pretty fast. I usually keep somewhere between 75-80 range. But then again I think my gs can handle more.  :icon_mrgreen:
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: Alphamazing on January 25, 2006, 11:59:11 AM
I normally run around 75-80 on the highways around here, but I'm still comfortable at higher speeds.

Hey I was reading through the other Texas post and found some names of some other Texans:
Austin: Treybrad, luksi
San Marcos: Ninga_steve
Houston: straymonolith

No doubt there are some I have missed, but do you think they might be up for it??
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: Alphamazing on January 27, 2006, 02:44:40 PM
I think treybrad sold his GS, actually. Specifically, I think he parted it out. I saw him selling quite a number of parts for it, but he might have had those just lying around. Who knows. I talked to him a few times and tried to get some stuff together, but it never solidified. There's also thirdman from here in Austin as well.

To an extent. If we get too many it would be a hassle. 6 or 7 would be perfect though.

We need reservations for a hotel if we're gonna stay there. They apparently fill up a year in advance and if we don't have a reservation there isn't a place to legally sleep. So yeah, word of warning.

ok so where up to five ..

*edit*

Me: 12:00
Alpha: 12:00
Budrick: ?
css4608: 12:00
straymono: ?
*edit*
i can do a look at see some of the hotels around there . see if maybe i can get us some kinda deal or somthing .
i need to find out if fri. March the 16th is a good day to leave .. maybe we can all get off work around 12 or so and meet up at the I-10 and 290 exit.  there will be three coming from the houston/SA area . then me and alpha coming from the centraltexas area. give me a head up on if thats a good day to start heading out ( we will be riding in to the night so i hope no one has a problem with this.
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: Alphamazing on January 30, 2006, 09:04:36 AM
I should be good with night riding, so long as we're not going breakneck speeds through super technical roads. Highway riding isn't an issue though. As for leaving on Friday around noon, that sounds doable, I think. I think I can miss my statics class and not feel too bad about it!

This is the week after Spring Break, so you might be able to catch a deal on a hotel. Call around and see what you can find. I'll sleep on the floor, so we can get at least 3 to a room to bring the cost down more.
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: css4608 on January 30, 2006, 10:17:02 PM
Sounds good.

12 works for me, or I can leave before 12 to get to I-10 and 290 at the same time as you.
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: FearedGS500 on January 30, 2006, 11:23:14 PM
ok this is what i have so far .. if we alll want to meet up at the same time in or around harper ( about 15miles from I-10 ) the houston guys would have to leave at 10am (you would stop and pick up budrick) and then from there you would meet me and alapha off I-10 .. you houston guys are looking at 5 hours just to meet up with me and alpah . ok as far as hotels go fort stockton looks like it has a good hotel its the " la quinta inn" 64 a night . comes out to 32 a person .. but then its 120 to big bend .. orrrr .. if you guys dont mind coughing up another 20 bucks we can get one in alpine,tx .. and its about 93 miles to big bend . i dont really see any thing closer sanderson has a  bit better rates .. at about 25-30 a person a night ( its really like 58 a night but its perroom and out of the five of us we can split it down the  middle) i just need to know what you guys are willing to spend and all that .. so i can get to calling these ppl . i'm trying to get us as close to big bend as possible with out breaking the bank . i'm going to call the big bend and find out how much there rates are there at the motel on the spot ( somthing tells me it will probly be 100+ a night ) but i'm going to call them tommrow so up date me so i can start making the reservations :)

Whoa whoa... I haven't sold my GS.. not yet anyway. I've just been busy w/ school and work. I haven't been on here much at all I guess. Anyway, sounds like a fun ride, I can't go but I'm down for a weekend ride sometime. My GS will be up for sale around July/August, so if you know someone looking for a bike.. let me know.

I'd like to keep my rooming costs around $30 or $40 or less, if possible. Like I said, I can sleep on the floor to further reduce the costs of a room.

good god is this sweet  or what !!  i think i hit the jack pot guys !! they have  a stone lodge in big bend . its 95 a night and 10. bucks extra for each person up to 6 ppl .. theres 3 double beds ..   heres a link !   http://www.nationalparkreservations.com/bigbend_chisos.htm   <--- cant really beat that . your looking at 27 bucks a person .. right on sight.... now thast not with tax .. add some tax. and your looking at what .. at most 35 bucks ? if you guys are in for it let me know .. and we can see what we can do to get it reservied :)

Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: FearedGS500 on January 31, 2006, 08:36:11 PM
ok ok .. about the last post i made about staying in Big Bend .. heres the deal .. we have to pick at least 3 logges .. CHISOS MOUNTAIN LODGE,THE MINING COMPANY,THE GAGE RESORT   .. we need to pick those three .. there all great looking places .. with the mining company being the cheapest . but i was going for the chisos mountain lodge . cuz it has the best stuff for the best price it seems like .. oh and we need someone with a credit card to do this .. i can put down everything you need to know that way you can tell them .. then when we meet up at our meeting location we can give our money out then ( to who ever charges it ) cuz we HAVE  to  do this in an advince . thats the only way . 2nd .. if we do get chisos mountains . theres atmost 3 double beds .. i figure since theres 5 of us . we should come up with a plan for how we sould do this .. say who ever takes the bed pays a few extra bucks .. and those that take the floor dont pay that much ? that way it evens out .. where looking at 150 bucks total for everyone . unless .. i think it was budrick that said he might get a few more ppl to go .. if you are you really need to press them to this and see if there going that way we can change the plan and get two room sinstead of one .. most these places only allow up to 4-6 ppl per room ..   (http://server2.uploadit.org/files/fearedgs500-untitled2.JPG%5Bimg%5D)    the line in the middle of the red  llines .. if i'm correct this is river road . !!! god i cant wait ! .

I'm up for any of the lodges, but if I was to choose one, I'd say go with Chisos. I like the idea of people on beds paying a bit more. Something like 5 or so.

We should also make a rule that we all have to wear all our gear all the time. I don't want to see one of you crazy fools splattered against a wall!

I am up for it. Im In. I have a friend with a harley thats interested. Hope no one minds. What do yall think about the possibility of a harley riding with us?? He is going to get back with me in a day or two to see about his work schedule and if he can get the time off. Oh and about the gear  :thumb:.

Anyone want to give me a call to talk about anything. 210-602-7028--Sprint. Free time after 7pm. Name is Ben by the way.

I think a guy on a Harley should be fine. I am probably not going to go at a break neck pace while we're out there very often, so yeah. I don't have a credit card, so I can't get the reservation :(

yea the harley can tag along i dont mind here .. but if no one has  a credit card then we will have to find a way to meet up here in the next week and i can put the money in my account ( the one card i have only has branches in roundrock and dallas )  that way they money is there and it can be delt with

straymonolith kinda had a good idea ..about us meeting up sometime and going on a short ride just to see how we ride togeather and get an idea of riding skill/lvl .. me i love and crave corners .. so i'm gonna have to watch my self on riverroad .. that i know of alpaha is pretty good me and him could meet up really easy seeing how i like LCR and i want to get to that big bike shop in austin so i can look at there flush mounts ..

Yeah, but I haven't ridden in like 6 weeks due to my track accident and getting the bike fixed. I'm still getting my cornering skills back. Still a bit aprehensive and scared the tail is gonna slip out on me.

Who from Houston is DEFINITELY confirmed for this? I know so far Budrick, me, and Feared are all definitely in, but who else?

Well, I haven't been riding too long, but I'm learning to take corners more aggresively. So I'm looking forward to the twisties.
Btw, I looked up the map, and what you had circled was the Mexican border. Here's a screenshot, the green line is actual roads. Still looks awesome.

yeaa thats cool .. on another note . i have bad news :|
all of big bend is booked up but the ones that cost like 200 bucks a night . and can only have 2 ppl per room :| so  thats that .. the only other option we have is staying in for davis or fort stokton or another town that starts with an S  really dont bother me but from FT.stokton to bigbend is 120 miles the town with an s is 116 and ft.davis is i think 70 .. so this means we will just get to reast a little longer and ride a little more on sat. :) i'll start my hunt on motels outside of bigbend again .

ok ppl its set in stone now . CSS has put in the reservations for the rooms at the "Best Western Swiss Clock Inn Property" its gonna be 30.13 a night and for those 4 that are getting a bed you need to fork up an extra 5 bucks a night so your looking at 70 bucks for the the two nights where there :)  i'll take a bed so theres one bed taken :P

Feared(me)-62 (bed)
alpha- 56(floor)
css4608-61(bed)
straymonolith-56(floor)
brudrick-62(bed)
budricks friend-62(bed)

budrick if you have a problem with this speak up i did not have a way to get a hold of you .. so i kinda did it on a first come first serve deal .

*edit* as for a day to meet up ... say the end of feb. .. maybe the 4th of march ? the only other days i would be able to ride are sundays .. lets throw some dates up in the air i just need to know so we can meet up and see how we ride as a pack and to see what skill lvl everyone is at .. i dont want to make this a bad trip for someone :)

Ok Im down. Yall can reach me at 210-602-7028 (Sprint) Free after 7pm. But you can call before that. Anyway, yeah still trying to get the deal done with my buddy. So no promises there. Will get back to yall with that ASAP.

Alpha you said you were going to be in San Antonio tomorrow (Friday). I have school from 730-230. Do you want to meet up so I can get you the money or how are we going to do the money thing?? Are we going to give it to CSS when we get there??

About leaving at 12 or meeting at 12, yes I am cool with that. That is spring break week so no school here.

Yeah, I'm going to be in San Antonio on Saturday (not Friday like I originally thought) around noon-noon thirty to visit my girl. I'll be leaving sometime around mid afternoon the next day if you just want to meet up to ride around. For the money I think we're just going to give it to CSS when we meet up in March, since he lives in Houston.

Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: FearedGS500 on February 04, 2006, 07:01:53 PM
ok ok .. heres what i was thinking .. things we need/might need . extra stuff to wear (you never know what might happen ) make sure you have somthing to drink and snack on . i'v never been to this side of texas on my own or down I-10 but it looks to be in the middle of  no where .. so if we stop there may not be any where to get somthing to drink/snack on . make sure you have all your gear i.e. helment ,jacket, pants, boots, gloves.  if you dont have a jacket like a leather one or one with some kinda of protactor gear in it let me know i have a full leather jacket i will let you use . yes . it may be hot but i'd rather be hot then skined up cuz some dummass desided to not look and try to run someone over . pillow would be nice if you can get it on there .. i'm just gonna brang somthing to change in to . some water and a snack . not much just enough to get me by . be ready for a good long ride ! and if we can get everyone up here on thur. night .. i might be able to get that fri. off  me and alpaha are the only ones not takeing fri. off as it seems so far .. so .. maybe i can get off .. alapha think you can swing a fri. all day off ?

edit* if your bike eats oil bring an extra  court or 2 *

Oil, Thats what I was thinking of, I just changed my oil for the first time yesterday. Whoo Hoo! I think Ill take a quart. Oil that is.

Ok, got a question. In terms of Lugage: How do yall plan to transport everything: socks, extra clothes, pillow, socks, toiletries, extra shoes, book, food, socks ect?? I was just thinking of a duffel bag strapped to the back. Plus a backpack to wear for extra stuff. I don't have a tankbag but I was thinking to maybe invest in one to carry the small stuff.
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)
Post by: FearedGS500 on February 05, 2006, 09:33:51 PM
i'm just gonna put everyting in my backpack .. dont really need a pillow unless your picky about it .. i can sleep just about on any thing .. as long as its not rough and pointy :P but i mean really all you need is . toothbrush ,underarm ,soap, shampoo,. extra pair of pants, shirt, sleeping  pants ,shirt, socks . (i say only one extra set cuz i have riding paints. shirt.boots.ect. ) oh extra pair of shoes .. if you have boots like i do . you need somthing to relax in . as for food .. bbq is what i had in mind on sat. night .. but .. i dont know what time where gonna get in .. sound like a plan ? we can all go to the local store there and get some stuff .. i  image they have bbq pits there :)
Title: Re: Texas Ride :)

I've got a tailbag, backpack, and tank bag. I should be able to fit most of my stuff in my tail bag (I got a set of clothes and shoes in there, as well as some raingear and bathroom stuff on my overnight in San Antonio). I can probably carry a few things for some people in my backpack if need be. I'll bring a bunch of extra bungee cords so we can tie stuff down. My tankbag won't hold much 'cept my wallet, drink, snack, bag raingear, and a few other little things, but the backpack can hold a surprising amount, if need be.

ok so as sated before about a meet up and a preride so we know where everyone is as far as skill lvl .. if you want .. or just meet up toride .. i know i think me and alpha are gonna try this weekend on a suday i have the police dapartment test thing to do to see if i can get in . then i want to go down to austin to see if the have some flush mount led turn signals .. but back to what i was asking .. say march the 4th ? i know thats two weekends before we go .. i can go sooner but it would have to be on a sunday . i was thinking somerville,tx (i use to live there so i know some of the roads) its a pretty dead on metting spots the houston guys are looking at 90miles and me and alpha are looking at about 95 . then we can go down some roads in somerville that are kinda curvy nothing to hard  just good fun riding :) let me know.. throw up some dates .. just rember . the rest of this month i can only ride on sundays . i dont mind . but i know some ppl dont like to do to much on sundays seeing how they have to work the next day

I'm fine with meeting March 4 or really any weekend.
Also, if anyone wants to meet up in Houston, that'd be cool.

I'm wondering if I should get raingear. I'll be wearing leather jacket/pants/boots, but I don't know how dry it'll keep me. I've never ridden in heavy rain; so how do you guys feel about rain?

I personally hate rain and don't like riding in it, but will if need be. Bring some raingear just in case. Leather doesn't like water very much, and plus raingear doesn't cost that much. You can get some for pretty cheap from an online sale or sales of last year's model at local shops.

And riding in Houston? Dude, people drive like maniacs there. Scares the pants off me.

That's why I go out to the country roads, 359 and 3090 are nice and twisty.

In that case... possibly. I might be free March 4 weekend. Week after that is Spring Break, and after that is Big Bend. This weekend is homework, though, and next weekend is Moscow/Geneva. Hot damn I'm gonna be riding a lot! Yay Texas weather!

I hope other people can make it. I'm going to kill myself these next few weekends with rides. I'm doing a 635 mile trip this Saturday and Sunday, and another 300 some mile trip the week after that. Then there's our test ride the first week in March... then Spring Break.... then Big Bend. My bike is going to shaZam! a brick because it won't know why it's being run like hell all of a sudden.

Hey fellas I got some bad news, some good news and some more bad news.

The bad news: The thing with my buddy with the Harley never solidified, so he is out. He couldn't get the time off work. There was some black out period at his work where you can't take vacation during that time.
Now Good News: I was blessed with an entrance into nursing school this year but the Cost is $$$$$. Thankfully I am going to take a test with this assistance program that I can get 100% of my tuition, books, and supplies money for the WHOLE nursing school. Even extra left over for gas and lunch. :). It is pretty much in the bag for me. :thumb:
More Bad News: I have to take that test during the Spring Break Trip Saturday that we have the scheduled trip  Sorry guys. Hope yall have a blast though!

But, I am still up for the March 4 the ride though. I haven't been on that long of a trip like this planned so I am looking forward to it. I am praying the weather is going to be beautiful.

Alright. So we're down two. I'll talk to my dad and see if he is in, and see if I can find someone else to take the second spot.

My dad's not in. He says it's too far for him. Bah. Old peeeeople. I'll ask around.

Post by: css4608 on February 21, 2006, 06:38:41 PM
Alpha, if you can't find more people it would not be a big deal, We could bag the second room and have 4 in the one room. We have untill 6pm the night before to decide. If we do this it will cost us $44 for the two on the floor and $64 for the two on the beds. That includes the $12 fee for the room we cancled and will not cost us any more then before.

I am free on the forth,  Straymonolith do you want to meet in houston on the forth?     if so pick a place to meet, I am close to NASA

Feared, what is the start point on your map, I could not make it out.

Not at all. Hell, my dad is thinking about coming along too. I'll try to work a definite answer out of him when I can. He might be bringing the ST1100 so my mother can go along, depending on wether she can handle such a "long trip". They'd pay their way, and my dad's pretty cool, so it should be okay.

How texas weather is?  The only time Texas weather is unprdictable is when you're looking foward to it.

Anyone in the Conroe/Cleveland/Huntsville/Houston/whatever areas want to tag along with me and a bunch of harley guys 11th?

we will see what happens. i dont think they will have a problem with it . we will see. i just know now at this moment i wont be able to afford the room by just my self. but on another note . i'm hoping to have my bike up and running by tue. i pulled the vavle cover off of it .. i heard this ticking noise kinda .. so i wanted to check my valves  we dont need any thing to go wrong on the way . but in the prosses . i snaped my fuel hose and when i went to the auto store they had nothing i could use and i lost an O-Ring for my allenbolt on the vavle cover . the stealer ship should have what i need they normaly have everything i need in stock :) i will give updates as i can

Just to confirm, I will cancel the reservation on one of the rooms.
We do not have to sneak anyone in, we can have four in a room, we just have to pay an extra $10 per person over two.

ohhh sweet . that works !  ok well now .. we just have to hope the stealer ship has what i need :) they should though . if not . i can probly find something to work

**edit** there not gonna let me off work tell about 12 or so they need me to help with the moring rush :( but i figure we can do one of two thinsg you guys can leave out and head that way and get things ready and i just meet you guys there orrr . you can just wait and i can been down in austin about 2pm . and that should put us there about ...9 or 10pm  depending on our travel speed and stop and go time and all that . and how offten we have to stop and take breaks. or theres a third opption . css and stray can head down there fri. moring get things set up ( you can head out there stright from houston save you time and gas :)  and then i can meet up with alapha and we can meet you guys there .. i think that works best but it dont really matter to me . what ever you guys wanna do . i know what i'm gonna be like .. i can get there at 10 sleep a few hours get up at 8 or9am and be ready to go for the day :) . i dont know about everyone ealse .. if you have not taken a long trip like this. its probly best that you leave out early and get there so you have time to rest up ( cuz your ass will be sore i promise ) the way alapha says he rides he should be there right next to me he should be fine ) let me know whats up so we can get this ready ( sorry the post is so long . i just like to have everything planed wayyy our before we go that way we dont run in to problems like the last ride  :thumb:

nope not riding down 190 like i thought i would . i'll   ride 190 in to lampasses then i'll ride 281 to 290 then to 1-10 tells me my total ride time is 6hours 2 mins :P  :thumb: but they dont count for pit stops and stuff like that . so .. it will probly be a bit longer . but knowing me i'll only stop for gas thats just how i am . unless i'm with ppl then i try to think about them   i might even beat you guys there or get there right around the same time you guys do :) .

**edit** ok so i wont beat you from austin to fortstockton its 5hours 20 mins . if you guys leave at 2pm then i'll probly get there about the same time as you . but oh well so you guys are gonna meet alapha in austin and i'll meet you guys in fort stockton ? **end edit**

Alpha, I have never been to Austin why don't you pick a place? I am thinking something on the South side, somewhat along 71 or 290. I was thinking that 71 will kind of skirt Austin and avoid the traffic, what do you think?

Also this was my planning, I have not talked to Stray yet so he might have some ideas.

As for rest, we can always stop if we want to. Add what you think, you do this more then the rest of us.

I'll check for some places down there. Something simple like a Dairy Queen, or do y'all want a local restraunt type place?

As for traffic, I think we'll be good, as Austin is pretty clear unless it's 4pm or so.

Simple works for me. Pick a place if you want, it would make meeting up easier.

Also if you want PM me or Stray your number and we can call you after breakfast and better know when we will get to Austin. hard to say how long it'ill take to drive through Houston, trafic dependent.

Mmkay, cheap and good and located on 71/290 - Taco Cabana. If someone wants burgers there is a Whataburger or a Jack in the Box a little ways before.

So, Taco Cabana on 190/71 right after 2304 on the frontage road at 12:50ish. Sounds good. I'll send you and stray a PM with my number if y'all have any questions.

Now here's a question: Think I should wear my leather or mesh jacket? I'm thinking leather, just to be safe. Who knows, Big Bend might be cold.

ohhh k good news i'm still in :P i had my worrys today . when i called the stealer and asked them for the o-ring to my allen bolt on top of the valve cover .. they told me nope we dont have any ..  "k how long and how much ? "   " about a week and 2 bucks "  i was like .. wtf !  so after i went up there to get my fuel hose ( that they gave me free :P )  then i went to oreillys to get me  a o-ring and they had somthing that i could use :) it was a tad thinker but it seems to be working . i got it all back togeather and going . (after i losed up the valve cover again cuz i relized i had mushed some of the gasket on the out side of the cover    but got it fixed and now its good to go ) so plan is you guys are all gonna meet up in austin about 1? .. i'll give  you guys a call if you pick up i'll see where you are . if you dont i'll take it as your on the road and i'll be right behinde you :)

Me and CSS will be leaving houston 9:30am and hopefully be in austin around 1:00-1:30pm.
Do we know where in Austin we're meeting?
As for food in Austin, I just know there's some OK places along the strip next to the main UT campus. But I'll leave it up to the local.

Also, I just discovered that I'm a AAA member, so I'll try to get some extra maps from them, and we should get a discount at the motel, if I remember to show them the card at check-in.

And check out this road, it totally follows the Rio Grande:

There are some great restraunts aroun campus. Kirby Lane is a fantastic little place that would be a good spot, but it's not really "on the way". It's considerably WAY out of the way, in fact.

Taco Cabana is right along 290/71, so we won't have to go 20 miles out of our way just for some grub.

Yeah, that was me. I should have left a message, but eh. I left on on stray's (Mark's) phone. Anyways, show me the bill and I'll figure out how much I owe for missing out.

I seriously thought it was next week because I was talking on here about having to skip my last class on Friday, and since this is Spring Break right now I had no classes, so whoops!! I went camping with my girlfriend instead. Sorry guys, but camping with her was better than going riding with y'all!  ;)

That's the common GS fuel starvation problem. The bike drains the carb's float bowls faster than it can fill them and it acts like it is running out of gas. What you should have done was switch over to PRI and it would have run fuel directly to the carbs, therefore bypassing the fuel starvation.

nope wrong answer my friend. thats what it hought to . thats what i did . nothing . i just got the bike unloaded a few min. ago ad it started right up . but after a few secondos it started to not run again . just sitting there . so what i'm gonna do is drain the fuel and put in some new stuff and see what happens if that dont work . it looks like i'm going to suziki to battle with them ! but i'm pretty sure its the gas . because both mine and css's bikes where acting up . so i hope he made it home . and i hope they did not hit that chevron up that i did . i was gonna go for the shell but they where not open yet :| small towns not opening any thing up by 6am !! whats wrong with them !!!

Just met up with stray for some dinner, and talked with him 'bout riding and stuff and the accident and his bike. It didn't look too bad, just a few standard bent parts. I'm gonna help him out as best I can with my spare parts. Lookin' forward to actually making a ride with y'all sometime in the future!

hehe yaaa where a fun bunch . i think big bend needs to be a yearly thing . me ,css, stray   got some bugs fixed on what we need to bring and be ready for :) and what time we leave and make sure everyone has what they need before we leave :P . big bend was fun we need to meet up and do it again so that stray, you (alpha),budrick can get to ride river road. i dont know about css but liked it . (besides the fact the speedlimit was 45 and i was doing 70-80 for most the part i had some spots where i was only doing 60 ) but i would have much rather raced my way threw there all the little ups and downs . would have had the front wheel off the ground a few times :P i look forward to doing it again !

I got home around 9:00PM.
I ended up fixing my bike on the side of the road cut out and I could not go much over 45mph. I tried prime and reserve and it would not work any better.
I had white stuff on everything including the jets and the gaskets.  Feared, you might want to try cleaning your jets and everything else in there but if you do there is a lot of fuel in the bottom of the carabrators, I got gas all over everything when I opened them. The one thing I never cleaned is the fuel filter I could not find it, traced the lines from the tank to the reserve switch to the carbarators.

Feared, the map you left in the Hotel room, you left it there again on Sunday so I have it now. Not sure if it is worth trying to get it to you.

Next time I will bring a cell phone charger, a second set of batteries for the flash light.  Not much light coming from it by the time I finished putting my bike together. I only had one extra part, an o-ring about three inches in diameter, any clue what that is for?

Also I will bring Alen wrenches, whoever picked the tools for the tool kit should try taking out Alen head screws with a Philip screwdriver.

Mark, How is your bike running?

I think the bad gas was from the stop before the crappy station we stopped at because I thought I was running out of gas
Then I think I sucked the rest up when I switched to reserve since we had been stopping for gas often as a group.
Is that what happened to you Feared?

YES !!  thats what happend to me . so you just cleaned it all and put new fuel in it and that fixed it ?  i seen that my spark plug had a white haz on it andi thought it was bad gas. i best your right it had to have been that last stop :| cuz mine did the same thing . it started jumping like crazy cut out and that was about it ..... i got lucky and some guys came threw that where going to austin, and picked me and my bike up and hauled me to austin . so i got supper lucky ..... gald you got home i was worryed

**edit*** get me a pic of that o-ring and i might be able to tell you what it is**

Hey, I'm back. I spent the night in Austin, so I got back to Houston on Monday.
I had no fuel starvation issues, because I dont have the vacuum petcock deal. My fuel is gravity fed with a little plastic ON/OFF petcock on the hose. This also means I dont have a reserve tank, so when I run out of gas, that's it. And now since my trip odo is broken it's really hard to tell how much gas I've got left. Also, when I got close to Houston it was getting dark and my speedo bulb was burnt out, so I couldn't tell how fast I was going. Then my tach cable popped out, so I was just riding by the seat of my pants.
So now I'm wondering how to fix the trip odometer, I don't see how to take apart the speedometer without breaking it apart. Also, if I get a whole new speedo, what do I do about the odometer reading? What are the legal rammifications of that?

Anyway, here are some pics, I'll post more detailed pics of the damage, later.

Yea, I'd be up for another trip at some point. Although maybe there's some other locations around TX worth checking out.
Maybe next time when we go to Big Bend we could have a more relaxed schedule and take a more scenic route, instead of following I-10 for 6 hours.
